Feast your eyes and mind on earthly treasures and mind-challenging demonstrations at the 65th annual HGMS Gem, Jewelry, Mineral & Fossil Show at the Humble Civic Center from Friday, November 9 to Sunday, November 11, 2011.

Once again, the Humble Civic Center, located near IAH Airport, is throwing open its doors for another stone-studded HGMS shindig.

Presented by the Houston Gem and Mineral Society (HGMS), collectors, explorers, and fans of all things ancient can browse through more than 50 case exhibits of fossils, minerals, gemstones, and unique jewelry from around the world at this 3-day event filled with unique gifts for the collector or home decor.

Eager-to-learn attendees will find plenty to engage themselves such as a wide array of educational exhibitions and demonstrations that include lessons on jewelry making, beading, lapidary and fossil identifications.

You’ll also find great shopping opportunities featuring unique jewelry and other earthly treasures–perfect for gift-giving.

Mine Your Mind

All ages can enrich their minds with displays of gems, minerals, fossil specimens, astounding fluorescent rocks, or even get a free identification of your own mystery gem by experts.

While you’re there be sure to peruse the Mineral Section displays of fluorescent minerals under black light, publications for sale, and school rock, mineral, and fossil sets.

If you aren’t feeling minerals, you may dig the Paleontology Section displays which feature fossil collections, books, “touch fossils,” and more special exhibits that tour various gem and mineral shows.

Visitors can also check out craft activities presented by the Houston Museum of Natural Science, an energy exhibit from the Houston Geological Society, demonstrations of faceting, cabbing, silversmithing and more throughout each day of the show.

Family Fun

There will be plenty to keep the kiddos engaged with activities that include the “School Daze” Earth Science Program, the Scout Geology Merit Badge, and the “Dino Dig”.

Parents of younger kids can breathe easy as children aged 10 and under (accompanied by an adult) receive free admission.
