  • Comedian Carlos Mencia at Houston Improv | Daily – The comedian, known for a blend of comedy that touches on politics, race relations, Latin American culture and more, comes to Houston for a long weekend of performances. $50 for 2, and up. Times vary.
  • Latin Restaurant Weeks at Multiple Locations | Thursday & Friday – The celebration of Latin cuisine has been extended through Friday, offering deals at several of the city’s Latin American restaurants. This is a chance to support local businesses while enjoying the delicious, diverse flavors of Latin America. Prices and hours vary.
  • Houston Texans Training Camp at NRG Park | Friday & Saturday – After a deep playoff run and big offseason moves, the Texans take the field for open training camps through August. Free tickets are required for entry. 9am.
  • Chelbe Dinner Experience at Privé Chelbe | Friday & Saturday – The team behind The Woodlands’ upcoming new restaurant Chelbe bring a chef-crafted Omakase dinner experience to a Woodlands estate, with courses paired with wine and cocktails. $299 and up. 6pm.
  • Comedian Will Burkart at Riot Comedy Club | Friday & Saturday – The LA-based comedian is one to watch as he rolls through the Montrose upstairs stage as part of a national tour, bringing with him his particular brand of observations and laughs. $20 and up. Times vary.
  • Festival of Originals at Theatre Southwest | Friday & Saturday – Experience five original short shows from five different directors with five different casts in one great night of theater. This production is ongoing through Saturday, August 10. $22. 8pm.
  • Jurassic Quest at NRG Park | Friday to Sunday – Travel through 165 million years of the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods, roaming among true-to-life versions of the creatures that once ruled the Earth in this much-loved, interactive dinosaur event. $22 and up. 9am to 6pm; Sunday until 5pm.
  • Melanin Minds Mental Health Conference at Mellie Esperson Building | Friday to Sunday – Expect 25 interactive and actionable sessions featuring panels of thought leaders, hands-on workshops, community talk circles, vendors, and more at the historic Downtown building. Throughout the transformational weekend, guests can connect with local resources and small businesses while smashing stigmas and finding healing in community. $100 and up. Times vary.
  • Houston Astros vs. Los Angeles Dodgers at Minute Maid Park | Friday to Sunday – The ‘Stros welcome rivals from California for a three-game weekend series. $30 and up. Times vary.
  • Next to Normal at Hobby Center | Friday to Sunday – This deeply moving musical with a pulsing pop score explores how one household copes with mental illness and a mother battling bi-polar disorder. Winner of three Tony Awards, it’s a powerful show about life and love. Recommended for ages 13 and older. $32.50 and up. Showtimes vary.

  • Gotta Catch Em’ All at Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center – Catch Pokémon characters Pikachu and Squirtle for a meet-and-greet, then enjoy the museum’s many interactive and hands-on exhibits. $14. 9am to 4pm.
  • Christmas in July Celebration at Market Street | FREE – Small bites and refreshments highlight this event, which also includes a raffle for a lip flip or underarm laser hair removal, and five color bar parties at Kendra Scott. 4pm to 7pm.
  • Yappy Hour at Midtown Park | FREE – Bring your pup out for treats, giveaways and dog tips. There’s plenty of fenced-­in outdoor space for dogs to meet new friends, get some exercise or chill by the water bowl. 4:30pm to 6:30pm.
  • Boomerays at Evelyn’s Park | FREE – Head to the Bellaire park to enjoy the sounds of this local group, known for its catalog of rock, pop and R&B hits. 6pm to 9pm.
  • Sunset Bingo at Levy Park – Daub your way to winning across eight games in a night of fun and prizes. Anyone can play, but those under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. $10. 6pm.
  • Barbie Movie Screening at Stevenson Park | FREE – Grab a blanket or lawn chair for an outdoor screening of the smash 2023 movie starring Margot Robbie at the Friendswood park. The Oscar-nominated film broke box office records and attracted legions of fans around the globe. 7pm.
  • Friends of River Oaks Theatre presents Monty Python & the Holy Grail at MATCH – This quote-a-long version of the comedy cult classic includes wild pre-film fun, including music and costume contests. Then, enjoy the madcap medieval adventure of King Arthur and his squire recruiting knights for an unforgettable quest. $17. 7pm.
  • Houston Symphony presents Batman at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion | FREE – Celebrating 85 years of the caped crusader, the Symphony performs Danny Elfman’s score to the 1989 Batman movie starring Michael Keaton, while the film plays on a giant screen. Dressing up as your favorite DC Comics character is encouraged. 8pm.
  • Lindsey Stirling in Concert at Smart Financial Centre – The virtuoso violinist and dancing sensation comes to Sugar Land as part of her Duality tour. Expect an energetic performance that blends pop and classical orchestrations, along with Stirling’s signature moves. $63 and up. 7pm.
  • Taylor Swift Tribute at Sugar Land Town Square | FREE – Part of the Music on the Square series, Lauren Corzine and a four-piece national touring act known as Red bring the most-loved hits of Taylor Swift to Sugar Land. 7:30pm.
  • Peso Pluma in Concert at Toyota Center – The Mexican superstar and Grammy Award winner brings his innovative touch on regional Mexican music to the Downtown arena while touring his newest release, Éxodo. $99 and up. 8pm.
  • Late Night with Ler & Lionel at The Secret Group – Comedians Ler and Lionel from the comedy podcast, Late Night With Ler And Lionel, offer their unfiltered take on sex, relationships and everything in between. $30 and up. 8pm to 10pm.
  • Santana Tribute at Post Houston – La Raza Connection delivers the guitarist’s greatest hits against the backdrop of the Houston skyline. $20 and up. 8pm to 10pm.
  • Ghengar DJ Set at Stereo Live – The house music DJ and record producer comes to the West Houston night spot for an evening of music. With songs like “Final Boss” and “War,” the Arizona native is known for his signature heavy and aggressive sound. $14.99. 10pm to 2am.
