The first standalone restaurant from Jarrod and Prisoria Rector has been frying and dishing for over a year on Richmond, just a block from the Ion building.

Head here for some seriously satisfying wings filled with mac ‘n’ cheese or boudin, battered and deep fried for a nontraditional take on fried chicken.

Go the extra mile with a side of Cajun fries smothered in melted cheese, sriracha, ranch and fresh boudin dressing—or swing by on the weekend for special breakfast offerings like stuffed hash browns, maple bacon wings and funnel cake.

Houston Sauce Pit in Third Ward

Before they brought Mo’ Better Brews to the Museum District, Courtney and Chasitie Lindsay started out by delivering all-vegan Texas barbecue with a twist at the Third Ward food truck on Almeda.

There, you can swing by and order up plates of smoked cauliflower wangs with traditional BBQ sides like baked beans, potato salad, mac ‘n’ cheese, and more.

But be sure to check in on social media before heading over, as menu items can change and they’re prone to sell out throughout the day.

Gatlin’s Fins & Feathers in Independence Heights

After more than a decade of delectable ‘que from Gatlin’s BBQ in the Heights, Greg Gatlin followed it up with Gulf Coast comfort food in Houston’s historic Independence Heights.

Gatlin’s Fins & Feathers serves up splurge-worthy dishes including gumbo and oysters, but the fried chicken is a staple plate for brunch, lunch and dinner.

Pull through for brunch offerings like the Wings & Hoecakes, fluffy cornmeal cakes served with wings tossed in maple chipotle glaze, or pick-up shareable lunch plates of Sweet ‘n’ Spicy Miso Wings, or jumbo whole wings served with your choice of side.

Dream Wings in Garden Oaks/Oak Forest

On Ella Boulevard near 34th Street, these wing slingers are known for their sauces that feature dry rub Jerk wings and wet varieties like Buffalo Lemon Pepper and Asian Twang, which combines a zingy dose of sriracha flavor balanced with honey, herbs and spices.

This Korean eatery on 18th Street serves up all sorts of goodies like Kimchi Fries, Spicy Dak Ramen, and Bulgogi French Dip, but the big draw is their perfectly fried-twice chicken wings that are lightly breaded, crunchy and generously sized.

The juicy wings comes sauced in non-traditional glazes like Soy Garlic and Sriracha Honey Lime, and can be paired well with options like fried rice for a belly-filling meal.

The halal wing shop on West Alabama from Rashid Minhas brings a local following through the doors for their bone-in and boneless varieties sauced in a nearly 90 different ways.

With a humble storefront that allows mostly for take-out orders, Wings 87 offers the classic sauces like lemon pepper, honey bbq and a range of dry rubs, but kicks it up with flavorful offerings like sriracha ginger, garlic mango habanero, and the tear-inducing Code Blue.
