Celebrate Mexican American culture with a weekend of celebrations, food and drink specials, concerts and more in Houston from Cinco de Mayo, Friday, May 5 through Sunday, May 7, 2023.

Commemorating the date of a pivotal Mexican army victory over France in 1862, Cinco de Mayo has come to be a day of celebration in the United States, where the community can take part in longstanding traditions of Mexican American culture through concerts, culinary treats, markets and more.

Cinco de Mayo Fiesta at J Bar M Barbecue & Beer Garden | Thursday to Saturday | No Cover – EaDo’s barbecue hotspot serves up three days of special food and drink specials with live Latin music—including the main event on Friday, Cinco de Mayo day itself, which will be plussed with a mini-market, face painting, and more. 11am to 11:45pm daily.

  • Cinco de Mayo at Monkey’s Tail | No Cover – The Mexican American dive bar and cantina is getting the Cinco de Mayo fiesta started early by opening its doors at 11am. In addition to its weekend brunch menu, party goers can expect festive decor including a swag wheel to spin at the door, crawfish and an outdoor burrito and taco stand, specialty drinks, a special $5 holiday menu, and DJ beats and mariachi music throughout the day. 21+ all day. 11am to 2am.
  • Down To Fiesta at Truck Yard | No Cover – The EaDo patio hosts a Friday fiesta with Little Luchador wrestling, little dog races, a food truck lineup of Tex-Mex favorites and cocktail specials all day long. Pets and kids are welcome. 11am to 2am.
  • Cinco de Mayo Fiesta at Ingenious Brewing Company | No Cover – The Cinco celebration returns to this Humble brewery, with special small batch brew releases with Tajin setups, micheladas and preparadas, a cantarito painting workshop, delicious tacos and birria, and more. Free to attend; painting class is $45. Noon to 10pm.
  • Cider de Mayo at City Orchard | No Cover – The Arts District cidery celebrates Cinco with “Cider-ritas” and birria tacos. 2pm to 10pm.
  • Cinco de Mayo at White Rhino | No Cover – In Second Ward on Milby, the cocktail bar hosts a night of Lotería along with live music and local vendors, tunes from DJ Tropic, giveaways and drink specials. 2pm to 2am.
  • Cinco de Mayo Fiesta at East End Backyard | No Cover – The spacious backyard patio in East End celebrates with La Esquina food truck, mariachi, ballet folklórico, a local vendor market, rounds of Lotería, and drink specials all day. 4pm to 2am.

  • Llama Piñata Workshop at Kidcreate Studio – On 34th Street, this kid-centric creativity space hosts a drop-off workshop where kiddos can learn how to create their own fridge-worthy piñata. $32. 4:30pm to 5:30pm.
  • Cinco de Mayo Celebration & Canterito Painting Class at Urban South HTX Brewery – Urban South HTX hosts a family and pet-friendly Cinco de Mayo celebration with a live DJ, a taco truck, beer releases, a Michelada vendor, Mexican candy, Canterito painting, and more. Free to attend; $45 and up for the painting class. 5pm.
  • Houston Cinema Arts Society presents Cinco de Hive-o at the Storyhive | FREE – The Houston video studio turns 9, and HCAS is helping them celebrate with a Cinco bash in the East End, featuring folklórico performances, a DJ, a photo booth and raffle prizes. While there, enjoy drinks from Topo Chico, Eureka Heights and Saint Arnold’s, as well as tacos from La Birria. 5pm to 10pm.
  • Cinco de Mayo at Little Woodrow’s Midtown | No Cover – The Midtown outpost of the popular drinkery hosts its annual Cinco party with drink specials and food trucks on-site, plus DJs and a live donkey. 5pm to 2am.
  • Cinco de Mayo Party at Social Beer Garden | No Cover – This Cinco blowout celebrates Mexican American culture with a backyard celebration featuring an outdoor market curated by Los Jefes, a late night Latin X-Burlesque show, a grito contest with cash prizes, giveaways, mariachi, a VIP smoke lounge, and more. Free Jell-o shots for those arriving by Uber. 5pm to 2am.

Cinco de Mayo Weekend Events

  • Cinco de Mayo Weekend at El Big Bad | Friday, May 5 to Sunday, May 7 | No Cover – Now in its 13th year, the annual Cinco celebration at the tequila bar in Downtown parties all weekend with live DJs, liquid nitrogen margaritas and more. 4pm to close.
  • LULAC Cinco de Mayo Parade in Downtown Houston | Saturday, May 6 | FREE – The festive LULAC Cinco de Mayo parade gathers elected officials, members of the community, businesses, schools, and more to walk and dance to the rhythm of Latin music in Downtown. Astros legend José Cruz serves as this year’s grand marshall. 10am.
  • East End Street Fest at the Esplanade at Navigation | Saturday, May 6 | FREE – Held during Cinco de Mayo week, this festival celebrates the art, music and heritage of East End with dance performances, live bands, artwork and plenty of fun for kids at the Plaza de los Niños. Noon to 6pm.
  • Cinco de Mayo Celebration at Traders Village | Sunday, May 7 | FREE – The Northwest Houston marketplace celebrates Cinco with an afternoon of music, dance, traditional food and festive fun. Free to attend; $5 parking. Noon to 5pm.
