Houston is graced by the G.O.A.T. this month when Simone Biles headlines a high-energy gymnastics display at Toyota Center, plus the Rockets return to the court while the Dash and Dynamo wrap up their regular seasons.
The Astros are also ALDS-bound, looking to face the Chicago White Sox in the first round of the MLB playoffs, which is slated to begin on Thursday, October 7. Keep an eye out for more information on the ‘Stros October schedule once it’s announced.

- Houston Astros vs. Oakland Athletics at Minute Maid Park | Friday, October 1 to Sunday, October 3 – The Astros close out their regular season at home against a division rival from Oakland. Now, they’ll turn their attention to the ALDS and the Chicago White Sox, slated to begin Thursday, October 7. - 49th Annual Buffalo Bayou Partnership Regatta on Buffalo Bayou | Saturday, October 2 – One of the five largest races in the country, the 15-mile Buffalo Bayou Partnership Regatta travels from West Houston to Allen’s Landing in Downtown Houston ending with a free celebration at Allen’s Landing in Downtown starting at 11:30am. $55 per person from Saturday, September 18 through Friday, October 1, 2021; $60 for on-site registration on Saturday, October 2, 2021; $30 for military and students with valid ID. Entry fee does not include a canoe or kayak. 7:30am to 2:30pm.
- NBA Preseason: Houston Rockets vs. Miami Heat at Toyota Center | Thursday, October 7 – In their final home preseason game, the Rockets will face a new-look Miami Heat, featuring Jimmy Butler, Kyle Lowry and former Rocket (and 2021 NBA champ), PJ Tucker. Tickets range from $10 to more than $800, but you may find better or cheaper seats using the TicketNetwork online marketplace. 9pm.
- Gold Over America Tour with Simone Biles at Toyota Center | Friday, October 8 – Houston native and the most decorated gymnast of all-time, Simone Biles highlights the G.O.A.T. Tour that will also feature Olympic-medaling gymnasts Jade Carey, Jordan Chiles, Grace McCallum and MyKayla Skinner. - Galveston Island Brewing 5K at Galveston Island Brewing Co. | Saturday, October 9 – Benefiting the Galveston Island Humane Society, this morning walk/run will send people down a flat course along the seawall, starting and ending at the brewery. Stick around for the post-race party with food trucks and a commemorative pint glass. Registration is $65. 8am.
- Tigres UANL vs. Deportivo Toluca at BBVA Stadium | Saturday, October 9 – From Nuevo León, the famed Mexican club of Tigres heads to Houston to take on Deportivo Toluca FC in a friendly between the two sides from LigaMX. Tickets range from $40 to more than $80. 8pm.
- Houston Texans vs. New England Patriots at NRG Stadium | Sunday, October 10 – The Texans will look to defend home turf against the visiting Patriots. Tickets range from $59 to over $350, but you may find better, cheaper, or hard-to-get seat using the TicketNetwork online marketplace. Noon.
- Houston Dash vs. Portland Thorns FC at BBVA Stadium | Sunday, October 17 – In their final home game of the regular season, the Dash will host one of the strongest teams in the league, Portland Thorns FC, that includes USWNT champions Lindsey Horan, Meghan Klingenberg, and Becky Sauerbrunn. - Houston Dynamo FC vs. Los Angeles Galaxy at BBVA Stadium | Wednesday, October 20 – Mexican striker Chicharito Hernández makes an appearance with the Galaxy for one of the Dynamo’s final home games of the season.
