Enjoy sophisticated cocktails and unrivaled service in a secret, elegant setting at Tongue-Cut Sparrow.

Hidden in the heart of Downtown, this Main Street mainstay can be found nestled above the popular mezcaleria, The Pastry War, behind an unmarked door.

A bar within a bar, this small speakeasy from cocktail extraordinaire Bobby Heugel of Anvil Bar & Refuge is known for its note-worthy bartenders, high-caliber cocktails, and intimate ambiance.

Open Wednesday to Saturday, visitors can try exquisite options including the Sazerac Royale (rye, cognac, absinthe, champagne, and gold); Japanese Highball (Japanese whiskey and soda); Ward 8 (whiskey, ume, grenadine, tea); or a French 75 (gin or cognac, lemon, champagne).

In addition to the wide array of quality classics, there is also a small well-edited selection of beer, wine, and bar snacks. Click here to view the bar’s full menu.

Finding Tongue-Cut Sparrow

Afraid you won’t find this hidden gem? Fear not. After you arrive at the Pastry War, feel free to walk with confidence straight through the large bar area, towards the pool tables in the back.

There, you’ll find an unlabeled black door, marked only by the bar’s insignia: a pair of ornate scissors. And if you’re having trouble finding Tongue-Cut Sparrow, the staff at the Pastry War are more than happy to point guests in the right direction.

Limited Seating

Due to the limited seating and high-demand, Tongue-Cut Sparrow allows reservations for up to half of the room but maintains the other half as open seating for walk-ins.

To make a reservation text or call 713-321-8242 to confirm a reservation. The staff will get back to you during their regular operational hours.
