Raise your glass and celebrate the grand dame herself at Elissa’s 147th Birthday Party bash and costume party at Galveston Historic Seaport on Saturday, October 26, 2024.

Galveston Historical Foundation (GHF) continues the annual tradition, celebrating another year of the lovingly and painstakingly restored Official Tall Ship of Texas with a costume birthday party that includes complimentary Saint Arnold beers, dinner and light bites, birthday cake, live music from Buxton, tarot card card reading by Emmy Rose, and more.

This year will also see the return of the Elissa costume party, with the theme “Under the Water” to inspire your cos-play and attire.

And one lucky party-goer will win a spot to sail aboard Elissa in the Spring day sails in April 2025.

The food menu will include muffuletta sliders, pecan chicken tenders drizzled with orange-ginger glaze, Cajun crawfish deviled eggs, and Swedish meatballs, along with fresh fruit skewers, warm spinach artichoke cheese dip and tomato bruschetta served with spicy bread rounds.

Bring a donation or gift card as a birthday present for early entry at 6:30pm, and a complimentary Champagne toast at 6:50pm before the official start of the party. Learn more about donations and GHF’s wishlist.

About the 1877 Tall Ship Elissa

In 1978, Galveston Historical Foundation (GHF) brought Elissa, an 1877 square-rigged iron barque, to Galveston from a scrapyard in Piraeus Harbor, Greece and began restoration. GHF staff and volunteers completed the task transporting the rare, historic vessel into a floating museum that can actively sail.

Today, the 1877 Tall Ship Elissa is one of only three ships of her kind in the world that still actively sails and she welcomes more than 40,000 visitors annually. She’ also serves as the Official Tall Ship of Texas, a National Historic Landmark, and a symbol of the Gulf Coast’s historic beginnings as a seaport and active waterfront.

About Galveston Historical Foundation

Originally formed in 1871 as the Galveston Historical Society and merged in 1954 with a new nonprofit organization, Galveston Historical Foundation (GHF) is devoted to historic preservation and history in Galveston County.

Over recent decades, GHF has expanded its mission to encompass community redevelopment, historic preservation advocacy, maritime preservation, coastal resiliency, stewardship of historic properties, and finding fresh new ways to introduce residents and visitors to the island’s legacy.

GHF embraces a broader vision of history and architecture that encompasses advancements in environmental and natural sciences and their intersection with historic buildings and coastal life and conceives of history as an engaging story of individual lives and experiences on Galveston Island from the 19th century to today.
