The Ghirardi Family WaterSmart Park is a picturesque outdoor classroom designed to teach the community about local plant life and water conservation.

Perched along Louisiana Street a short distance south of FM518, this lush three-acre park displays a beautiful canopy of oak trees, which line the area and provide a shaded space for visitors.

Let your young nature enthusiasts’ imagination run wild as they soar from bar to bar, climb and explore each hidden feature of the park’s small, woodland-themed playground.

Take an early stroll along the decomposed granite trail, butterfly watch or admire the community garden. For a more scenic walk through, visit the 100-year-old oak tree fenced behind the playground.

If you’re looking for something slightly more adventurous to do, take a roll down the grassy knoll located on the outer edge of the park. Others can relish in the opportunity to master the art of oral storytelling by stepping onto the stage of the park’s outdoor theater, or perhaps even conquer the fear of public speaking.

To demonstrate the simple ways urban areas can harvest water for future need, the city incorporated two cisterns that collect and store rainwater as a way to resourcefully replenish the landscape.

Ghirardi WaterSmart Park is a great recreation spot for families, gardeners, conservationists, and anyone seeking a fun outdoor adventure in the suburbs of southeast Houston.
