Monday, May 26[/quote_box_right]It’s Memorial Day Weekend, known as the official start of summer, and there’s a lot going on around the city to offer up a taste of what we can expect over the next three months.
While a lot of folks are heading out of H-Town, many are sticking around to check out the Comicpalooza conference, some of the last crawfish boils of the year, showcases for both the Houston Symphony and Houston Ballet, a parade and festival in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Sunday night parties and more.

Things to Do All Weekend
Tour de B-Cycle in Central Houston | Daily – Score a Houston B-Cycle t-shirt (and major bragging rights) when you show check into all 29 Houston B-Cycle stations in less than 24 hours. - Dancin’ in the Street: Motown and More Revue at Miller Outdoor Theatre | FREE | Thursday through Sunday – The beloved show-stopping R&B and soul tribute to Motown’s greatest returns to Miller, this time including a thrilling Jackson 5 number and a special performance commemorating the 50th anniversary of Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come.” 8:15pm daily.
- Comicpalooza at George R. Brown Convention Center in Downtown Houston | Friday through Monday – Grab your favorite sci-fi, fantasy or other comic-inspired T-shirt or go in full costume to this massive four-day gathering of stars, creators, writers and fans. Single day passes are $20 in advance and $25 at the door for adults; $10 in advance and $12 at the door for ages 6 to 12; four-day passes start at $55 for adults and $12 for ages 6 to $12.
- Memorial Day Staycation at Hotel ZaZa | Saturday and Sunday – Take advantage of a special $199 overnight rate at Hotel ZaZa this weekend, including extras such as grill-out bites and Texas craft beers in the lobby from 3pm to 7pm, house-crafted sno-cones by the pool (boozy and non-boozy options) and welcome champagne on arrival.
- Crawfish Season Finale at Cottonwood in the Heights | Saturday and Sunday – Enjoy Cottonwood’s flavorful crawdads for the last time until 2015. $6 per pound or $22 for all you can eat. 1pm both days.

- Repitcon Houston in Pasadena | Saturday and Sunday – See a massive gathering of reptiles, amphibians and the people that love them as this crowd and kid-pleasing reptile convention returns to the Pasadena Convention Center. $10 adults; $5 kids at the door. Advance VIP tickets are good for two days and are $12 for adults’ $5 for kids. 10am to 5pm Saturday; 10am to 4pm Sunday.
- Houston Ballet presents Modern Masters at Wortham Theater Center | Thursday, Saturday and Sunday – Delight to a program featuring four works featuring explosive energy, high attitude and cool sexuality. You’ll likely find cheaper or better seats on TicketNetwork’s resale market.
- Houston Symphony presents Symphonic Spectacular at Jones Hall | Friday through Sunday – TV’s Victor Garber hosts a visual performance where beloved hits such as “Waltz of the Flowers,” “1812 Overture” and “Flight of the Bumblebee” are accompanied by stunning photographic stills and animation. $29 to $126. You may find cheaper or better seats on TicketNetwork’s resale market.
- Godzilla: The Japanese Original Movie Screening at MFAH | Friday through Sunday – Experience the 1954 Japanese film that started it all, including the current Hollywood blockbuster. This 60th anniversary restoration includes scenes deleted from previous U.S. releases. 7pm Friday and Saturday; 5pm Sunday.
