Enjoy an educational glimpse of General Sam Houston’s 15-acre homestead at the Sam Houston Memorial Museum in Huntsville.

Located in the heart of Huntsville on the Sam Houston State University campus, this eponymous museum is dedicated to preserving the legacy/memory of the famed general and his times.

A combination of historic buildings, beautiful grounds, artifacts, and traditional museum gallery-style buildings, the Sam Houston Memorial Museum offers a variety of activities and tours for both individuals and groups.

Visitors can look forward to tours consisting of film shorts about Sam Houston, guided visits to his Woodland Home and Steamboat House with costumed historians, living history demonstrations, a visit to the Main Memorial Museum, and the Museum Store.

While on a tour, guests can choose from several demonstration options including hearth cooking, historic toys, black powder gun and pioneer skills, medicines of the 19th century, and even blacksmithing.
