Don Giovanni & Fleeing Fate

Driven by hedonistic urges, Don Giovanni indulges in unrepentant womanizing as he treks across Europe with his resourceful servant, Leporello, in tow. As his disdainful adventures lead him to cross paths with noblewoman Donna Anna and Zerlina, a peasant, Don Giovanni attempts to dodge honesty, guilt, and fateful retribution for his contemptuous acts.

With the help of the award-winning team of set designer Es Devlin and video designer Luke Halls (both contributors to the 2012 London Olympics closing ceremonies), Holten conceives Don Giovanni through the prism of the title character’s complex mental landscape, exploring what hell might look and feel like for a charismatic serial seducer.

Don Giovanni marks the company debut of director Kasper Holten, the former director of opera at The Royal Opera, Covent Garden from 2011 to 2017.
