On the night of September 15, 1810, Father Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla’s issued a grito on the church steps in the Mexican town of Dolores Hidalgo. The following day, September 16 (Diez y Seis de Septiembre) saw the launch of Mexico’s War of Independence against Spain, which was finally won until 1821.
To commemorate the grito and the independence holiday that followed it, Houston’s own landmark Mexican restaurant Pico’s Mex Mex is offering a late evening happy hour featuring $6 shaker margaritas.
