- Chamber Music Houston presents Cuarteto Casals at Rice University’s Stude Concert Hall | Tuesday, February 21 – The Independent proclaimed that “no other quartet can match this group’s four-voiced marriage.” Shubert’s enduring Death and the Maiden highlights their return to the Chamber Music Houston stage. $20 and up. 7:30pm.
- Broadway Across America presents Moulin Rouge! at Hobby Center | Wednesday, February 22 | Ongoing – Baz Lurhmann’s electric film comes to life onstage in this musical, complete with eye-popping visuals and over-the-top energy. This production ends Sunday, March 12. $35 and up. Showtimes vary.
- Houston Ballet presents Romeo & Juliet at Wortham Center | Thursday, February 23 | Ongoing – Stanton Welch’s production of the classic tale of star-crossed lovers reimagines Renaissance Italy through dazzling costumes and fresh choreography. This production ends Saturday, March 4. $25 and up. Showtimes vary.
- Houston Grand Opera presents Giving Voice! at Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church | Friday, February 24 | FREE – The opera partners with Houston Ebony Opera Guild, Prairie View A&M and Texas Southern University for this epic concert that blends opera, gospel and spirituals. Hosted by KHOU’s Len Cannon, it features renowned tenors Lawrence Brownlee and George Shirley, soprano Nicole Heaston—who the New York Times praised for her “radiant voice,”—and more. Free with registration. 7:30pm.
- ROCO Unchambered: Thomas Hultén at MATCH | Friday, February 24 – The first Unchambered concert of 2023, this eclectic program featuring ROCO Principal Trombonist Thomas Hulté, highlighting the wonders of the brass family in chamber works featuring the trombone. Tickets are pay-what-you-can. 7:30pm.
- Viva El Amor at MECA TBH Center | Friday, February 24 – MECA’s annual Valentine’s concert comes to the TBH Center in Second Ward, featuring the music of Vanessa Alonzo with Trio Chapultepec, the Ermelinda Cuellar Jazz Trio, and original collaborations. $20. 7:30pm.
- Performing Arts Houston presents New/Now at Wortham Center | Friday, February 24 & Saturday, February 25 – New live works from Houston artists awarded by the Houston Artist Commissioning Project take center stage in the Theater District, offering back-to-back nights where you can catch unique works from artists Vivalda Ndula, Anthony Brandt, Tazeen Zahida and J.E. Hernández. $25. 7:30pm.
- Synapse the Play at MATCH | Friday, February 24 to Sunday, February 26 – A celebration of all things neurodivergent, this work from local actor and playwright Shanae’a Moore follows the journey of Lyra, who discovers she has more power than she ever imagined possible, in this multi-sensorial reading. Tickets are pay-what-you-can; suggested price of $35. Showtimes vary.
- Houston Symphony presents Blast Off to Space at Jones Hall | Saturday, February 26 – The Symphony brings another installment of its family-friendly concert series, featuring action-packed music from Star Wars, E.T., The Planets and more, along with kid-friendly activities and an instrument petting zoo. $22 and up. 10am and 11:30am.
- Dancing with the Stars Live at Smart Financial Centre | Sunday, February 26 – See the ballroom brought to life featuring your Dancing with the Stars pros Brandon Armstrong, Alan Bersten, Sasha Farber, Gleb Savchenko, Emma Slater, Britt Stewart, and So You Think You Can Dance winner Alexis Warr. $65 and up. 7pm.
- Performing Arts Houston presents Mnzoli Brass: Gold at Wortham Center | Sunday, February 26 – Called the Monty Python of the music world, this Austrian band performs a concert that includes selections as varied as the Green Hornet theme and the overture to Die Fledermaus. $29 and up. 7:30pm.
Final Performances This Week
Saturday, February 25 sees the closing of A Number at Rec Room Arts; while final curtains come down on Sunday, February 26 for Paradise Blue at the Ensemble Theatre, Red Speedo, and a double bill from Vincent Victoria at Midtown Arts Center.
