- 16th Annual Galveston Women’s Conference at Moody Gardens | Friday, September 15 – This all-day conference invites women to come together and learn about health and other women’s issues, while also developing skills and finding inspiration to be successful in life and business. Award-winning actress and comedian Christine Baranski will deliver the keynote address. $225. 8am to 5pm.
- Vivo LatinoAmerica Fundraiser Concert at Wonky Power | Friday, September 15 – This East End celebration features local Latin musicians like Orion 224, Vortxz and more performing alongside a bustling market of Latin vendors to kick off Hispanic Heritage Month. All ticket sales and donations go toward providing vital health screenings for underserved Latinx individuals in the Houston area. $10 in advance; $12 to $15 at the door. 7pm.
- Keke Palmer in Concert at House Blues | Friday, September 15 – Actress and R&B singer Keke Palmer tours through Downtown Houston with songs from her brand new album, Big Boss. $30. 7pm.
- El Grito with Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlán at Miller Outdoor Theatre | Friday, September 15 | FREE – Miller’s annual kickoff for Mexican Independence Day and Hispanic Heritage Month returns with a free night of classic Mexican music from Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlán, a 15-member group with a rich legacy of more than 50 years of mariachi music. 7:30pm.
- Viet Cultural Fest at NRG Center | Saturday, September 16 – Immerse yourself in a full day of Vietnamese culture at this festival celebrating Houston’s Viet community with traditional dance and music performances, Vietnamese games and trivia, pageants, a phở-eating contest, and plenty of delicious dishes. $10 for ages 3 and up; $15 at the door. 10am to 7pm.
- Houston Creole Festival at Emancipation Park | Saturday, September 16 – The ninth annual festival celebrating Houston’s Creole heritage returns to Emancipation Park in Third Ward with a family-friendly day of Zydeco and dancing, plus a local vendor market, kids zone and flavorful foods like cookies, barbecue, brisket, gumbo and more. $10 and up; free for ages 11 and under. 11am to 10pm.
- Studio Practice with Nestor Topchy at the Menil Collection | Saturday, September 16 | FREE – Artist Nestor Topchy, the subject of Menil’s exhibition The Iconic Portrait Strand, invites the community to share in his studio process of making icon portraits in the Byzantine style. Noon to 4pm.
- Party on the Plaza at Avenida Houston | Saturday, September 16 | FREE – The Downtown plaza hosts a night celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with Mexican Norteño tunes from Grupo Vadenagi and Latin music by Shekere Band. Stop by Discovery Green across the street and you can also shop local vendors at the Flea by Night event. 6pm to 9pm.
- Fiesta de Independencia 2023 at Axelrad | Saturday, September 16 | FREE – Celebrate Diez y Seis at the outdoor garden of Axelrad, which hosts a night of music from Felipe Galvan, Vanita Leo, and Strawberry Jams alongside local vendors, cocktails and more. 7pm.
- Football: UH Cougars vs. TCU at TDECU Stadium | Saturday, September 16 – The Coogs host their first Big 12 opponent of the season when the nationally-ranked TCU comes to town. $50 and up. 7pm.
- Comedian Mo Amer at Bayou Music Center | Saturday, September 16 – Born in Kuwait and raised in H-Town, the comic most recently made his mark with the successful first season of his Houston-shot Netflix comedy, Mo, which loosely follows his life growing up as a Palestinian refugee in the Alief area. The comedian returns for his biggest performance yet in Houston on the officially recognized Mo Amer Day, and you’ll need to act quickly to secure solid seats before they’re gone. $38 and up. 8pm.
- Performing Arts Houston presents MOMIX: Alice at Jones Hall | Saturday, September 16 & Sunday, September 17 – This new dance work inspired by Alice in Wonderland blends MOMIX’s creativity with dazzling visuals, taking audiences on an unexpected journey through a beloved story. $39 and up. Saturday 7:30pm; Sunday 2pm.
- 713 Walks: Cultural Walk in East End Arts District | Sunday, September 18 | FREE – Join with Urban Paths for a walking tour of the cultural arts found throughout East End, including historic architecture, public art, the Buffalo Bayou Park Silos, Talento Bilingüe de Houston, the Navigation Esplanade, and more. 9am to 11am.
- Houston Texans vs. Indianapolis Colts at NRG Stadium | Sunday, September 18 – The Texans hit the field for their home opener in the 2023 NFL season, hosting division rivals in the Colts. $60 and up. Noon.
- King’s Cup at Houston Polo Club | Sunday, September 18 – Polo season is back and the fall is kicking off with the King’s Cup. Enjoy world class polo, a player parade, live music, a Champagne divot stomp at halftime, a special trophy presentation, and delicious Argentine and Brazilian—inspired fare by David Cordúa’s Lymbar. $18 and up; Box seats for 2 to 20 guests range from $100 to $995. 5pm.
- Drake & 21 Savage in Concert at Toyota Center | Sunday, September 18 – Drizzy’s rescheduled June show is finally here and the multi-platinum pop star is performing with 21 Savage on their co-headlining It’s All a Blur tour in celebration of their joint release Her Loss. A second performance also takes place on Monday, September 18. $74.50 and up. 8pm.
