- AIDS Walk Houston 2021: Virtual Edition | Ends Friday | Virtual – Walk, run, dance, swim, or even cook to help raise funds for ending the HIV epidemic in the final day of AIDS Foundation Houston’s 32nd annual fundraiser, which was extended through Friday, April 9, 2021. Don’t miss the Virtual Celebration wrap-up event hosted by a surprise local celebrity on Friday at 6pm.
- 6th Annual Black Restaurant Week in Houston, Galveston & Beaumont | Ends Sunday – Celebrate the sixth year of Black Restaurant Week Houston during the final weekend showcase of flavors of African-American, African, and Caribbean cuisine in Houston and beyond with special menus and prices. There’s also the Soundbites Food Truck Park Pop-Up in Southwest Houston, featuring more vendors, DJ tunes, and market vendors. For 2021, Black-owned restaurants and food trucks in Galveston and Beaumont have been added to the campaign, which features more than 100 participating restaurants. Times, prices and locations vary.
- Houston Astros vs. Oakland Athletics at Minute Maid Park | Friday and Saturday – The ‘Stros look to keep their hot start rolling, wrapping up their home opener series with the Oakland A’s. If you’re lucky enough to be one of the first 10,000 fans through the gate, you’ll also be taking home a replica of the team’s 2019 AL Championship trophy, available on both gamedays. Tickets range from $25 to more than $200, but you may find better or cheaper seats on the TicketNetwork marketplace. Times vary.
- NWSL Challenge Cup 2021 Opening Match: Houston Dash vs. Chicago Red Stars at BBVA Stadium | Friday – H-Town’s reigning 2020 Challenge Cup champs return home for the opening game of the 2021 edition of the tournament, kicking things off with a rematch against the 2020 runners-up, Chicago Red Stars. Tickets start at $10. 7:30pm.
- Front Lawn Film Nights: Enter the Dragon Movie Screening at Asia Society Texas Center | Friday – The third screening of Asia Society’s outdoor film series showcasing groundbreaking filmmakers and artists brings Bruce Lee’s final film, Enter the Dragon (1973, R) to the front lawn of the Museum District. This work from the legendary martial arts master remains one of the most influential kung fu films of all time. Lawn seating is available by the pod (up to 4 people) for $40; $30 for Asia Society members. Popcorn and candy packages available for $10. 8pm.
- Family Conservation Day at Houston Arboretum & Nature Center | Saturday | FREE – Head outdoors for a free, hands-on, dirt-digging activity that passes on the importance of conserving our natural habitats when the Houston Arboretum hosts this all-ages event. Naturalists and conservationists will be on-hand to help instruct and answer questions. Outdoor attire is recommended. 9am to noon.
- The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival at Town Green Park | Saturday and Sunday – The two-day arts festival returns to The Woodlands, bringing together nearly 200 international, national and regional artists showcasing and selling their works of fine art. Swing by to enjoy live music, local food, beer and wine, children’s art activities and more as you browse the pieces on display. Tickets are $17 for a weekend pass, $12 for a single day; free for ages 12 and under. 9am to 6pm both days.
- Screwed Up Click (S.U.C.) Talk and Performance at Contemporary Arts Museum Houston | Saturday | FREE | Virtual Option – Hear from Houston rap legends E.S.G., Lil’ Flip and Will-Lean, members of the Screwed Up Click (S.U.C.), as they perform and share personal stories related to DJ Screw, in conjunction with CAMH’s exhibition Slowed and Throwed: Records of the City Through Mutated Lenses. Seating is limited and provided to ensure social distancing during the event. The outdoor performance is also live-streaming on CAMH’s Facebook, Instagram and YouTube pages. 2pm to 4pm.
- Final Day of Exhibitions at Menil Drawing Institute | Sunday | FREE – Two installations come to a close this weekend at the Menil Drawing Institute; the gold-speckled wall drawing of Jorinde Voigt, and a collection of 70 innovative drawings by Italian artists from the turn of the 20th century. 11am to 7pm.
