- Closing Exhibition: Slowed and Throwed: Records of the City Through Mutated Lenses at CAMH | Thursday, April 22 to Sunday, April 25 | FREE – Originally opened prepandemic, this Contemporary Arts Museum Houston exhibition revolves around the legacy of the late Houston rap legend, DJ Screw. The two-part, interdisciplinary exhibition examines Screw’s creative process and contributions to rap, while also assembling a field of artists that appropriate techniques like mash-up, collage, and manipulation of time to explore how remixing of “sampled” materials is a radical aesthetic act utilized by both artists and musicians. Thursday noon to 9pm; Friday to Sunday noon to 6pm.
- Houston Astros vs. Los Angeles Angels at Minute Maid Park | Thursday, April 22 to Sunday, April 25 – The Astros host the Angels for a four-game homestand in Downtown. The first 10,000 lucky fans through the gate over the weekend will also have a shot at limited giveaways like Jose Altuve and Yordan Alvarez bobbleheads, or an Altuve replica jersey. $15 to more than $175, but you may find better or cheaper seats on the TicketNetwork marketplace. Times vary.
- Comedian Marlon Wayans at Houston Improv | Thursday, April 22 to Saturday, April 24 – Fall out of your chair laughing when comedian, writer, director, and movie star Marlon Wayans takes to the stage at Houston Improv to bring his over-the-top, animated brand of humor for five socially distanced shows. $160 for a table of four, $240 for a table of six. Showtimes vary.
- Houston Rockets vs. Los Angeles Clippers at Toyota Center | Friday, April 23 – The Rockets host a tough Los Angeles Clippers team, led by Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, in the heart of Downtown at Toyota Center. This game is also broadcast on ATT SportsNet-SW. $34 to over $450, but you may find better or cheaper seats on the TicketNetwork marketplace. 7pm.
- Badfish: 20th Anniversary Tour at House of Blues | Friday, April 23 – Celebrate 20 years of live performances at an all-ages show from Sublime tribute band, Badfish, when the reggae rockers take to the stage at House of Blues for a standing room–only concert in Downtown. $20. Doors at 7pm; show at 8pm.
- Tall Ship Nao Santa María & 1877 Tall Ship Elissa Tours at The Galveston Historic Seaport | Saturday, April 24 & Sunday, April 25 – Take a tour of two different seafaring eras when Galveston’s own 1877 Tall Ship Elissa is joined by the visiting Tall Ship Nao Santa María for just one week of rare vessel tours, presented by Galveston Historical Foundation. $20 for combo tickets for both ships for adults; $11.50 for ages 6 to 18; free for ages 5 and under. Individual tickets for a single ship—either Nao Santa María or Elissa—are $10 for adults; $6.50 for ages 6 to 8; free for 5 and under. 10am to 5pm both days.
- Spring Breakout Aerial Adventures at Big Rivers Waterpark | Saturday, April 24 & Sunday, April 25 – Head to New Caney for the final two days of the Spring Breakout event, featuring an inflatable obstacle course on the lake, climbing walls, zip lines, aerial activities, axe throwing, a petting zoo and more. $14.99 per person and most activities are available with this general admission pass. Extreme Breakout passes, which include the additional events are $59.99, but a limited number are discounted to $42 on select days. 11am to 5pm both days.
- Opera in the Heights: Highlights from Lucia and Figaro at White Oak Music Hall | Saturday, April 24 & Sunday, April 25 – Head out to the lawn at White Oak for a pair of live concerts highlighting Donizetti’s “Lucia di Lammermoor” and Mozart’s “Marriage of Figaro”, conducted by artistic director Eiki Isomura. $125 for a pod of up to six people. Saturday 7:30pm; Sunday 4pm.
- Sun of the Soil Movie Screening at Menil Collection | Saturday, April 24 | FREE – [Editor’s Note: Due to inclement weather, this event has been rescheduled to Saturday, April 24, 2021 at 8pm.] Hit the lawn of Menil Collection for a screening of the 2020 documentary short film, Sun of the Soil, directed by Joe Penney about Malian artist Abdou Ouologuem’s creative journey into the myth and true history of Mansa Musa, known as the wealthiest individual in all of human history. 8pm.
- Punk Rock Garage Sale at Brash Brewing | Sunday, April 25 | No Cover – In Independence Heights, Insomnia Gallery presents this monthly market that features more than two dozen vendors offering up music equipment, toys, zines, movies, and pop culture memorabilia while you sip tasty suds from the taps of Brash Brewing. 1pm to 5pm.
