Embrace the waves and learn how to help sustain the life below them with hand-on fun and entertainment at the family-friendly Artist Boat World Ocean Day Festival on Galveston’s East Beach on Saturday, June 8, 2024.

Beach-goers can enjoy interactive activities, eco-art workshops for all ages, Bucket Brigade tours (free advance registrations required), vendors, live entertainment on the main stage, and more.

The event also marks the judging of Artist Boat’s annual Beautify the Bucket competition, where artists and everyday people paint and decorate the blue buckets placed along Galveston’s beaches to collect trash and deter littering. Judging happens throughout the day and the awards announcement follows at 3pm.

There will also be a streaming presentation of the Galveston Park Board of Trustees’ Women in Coastal Science series, with Karla Klay, Artist Boat’s executive director, interviewing the Gulf Coast Canine Project’s Dr. Kristin E. Brzeski.

About World Ocean Day

Celebrated around the world, World Ocean Day is the United Nations-recognized day of ocean celebration and action.

It recognizes the irreplaceable roles that the oceans play in sustaining our planet and way of life, and encourages people to take action to care for and support it in return.
