Celebrate Houston’s creative and funky with beer and food and an evening outdoor screening of the documentary Art Car: The Movie at the Orange Show for Visionary Arts on Saturday, August 17, 2013 from 6pm to 10:30pm.

If May’s Art Car Parade seems like forever ago to you and you need your art car fix or you just need to dip your toes in the quirkier side of Houston, you’ll definitely want to head to the Orange Show as the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Rolling Roadshow presents a special screening of the documentary Art Car: The Movie, hosted by the film’s co-directors, Ford Gunter and Carlton Ahrens of Del Monte Films.

The film follows Rebecca Bass and her high school class as they prepare an entry for the Houston Art Car Parade. Infamous locally and internationally with almost 300 entrants and more than 300,000 spectators. The Houston Art Car Parade is the biggest in the world, and attracts talent from across the globe.

“In exploring why art cars — and self-expression — matter in an increasingly detached world, co-directors Carlton Ahrens and Ford Gunter traveled the U.S. and the world talking to artists and academics to determine why these visionary artists can’t help but decorate their cars, how that challenges societal norms, and why we should all listen to what they have to say,” according to the official Art Car: The Movie website. “After all, they are talking to you.”
