Spy dragon boats, canoes, kayaks and a few surprising floating contraptions at Afloat! A Parade on Water traveling down Buffalo Bayou in Downtown Houston on Saturday, October 4, 2014 from 11am to 1pm.

This new procession of people-powered watercraft will depart from Allen’s Landing late Saturday morning and wind it’s way into the East End. In addition to the dragon boats and other conveyances, Houston artist Sharon Engelstein’s whimsical, giant inflatable sculpture of a tug boat called Whatever Floats will join in the fun.

The procession is the first of three parades as part of Transported + Renewed, a three-month project and festival spearheaded by Houston Arts Alliance. Afloat! A Parade on Water was created an organized in conjunction with the Buffalo Bayou Partnership.

UPDATE 9/11/14: Due to anticipated rainstorms, Afloat! was rescheduled to Saturday, October 4, 2014 from its originally planned date of Saturday, September 13, 2014.
