Be among the first to see the new stature honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at its grand unveiling in MacGregor Park on Saturday, May 25, 2014.
After years of hard work and planning, Houston’s Black Heritage Society is pleased to present a new statue to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in South Houston’s MacGregor Park. The statue’s debut will be marked with an all-day celebration featuring a parade and a free afternoon cultural festival in the park itself.
Spirit of MLK Parade and March
The celebration to unveil the new Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. statue in MacGregor Park begins with a spirited parade. The procession follows a short route, beginning at the Palms Shopping Center at MLK Blvd. and Griggs Rd, travels north on MLK and into MacGregor Park. 9am to 11am. The statue unveiling follows immediately at 11am.
MLK Memorial Statue Unveiling & Pan-African Cultural Festival
Following the unveiling of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial, The Black Heritage Society hosts an all-day community festival in MacGregor park to celebrate African heritage. 1pm to 10pm.
