See San Francisco-based, internationally acclaimed Alonzo King Lines Ballet as they debut in Houston with their works Scheherazade and Resin at Wortham Theater Center on Friday, May 9, 2014.

An innovative re-envisioning of the ancient collection of Persian, Sanskrit and Arabic stories that is One Thousand and One Nights, the company’s exciting, immersive take on Scheherazade was originally commissioned to inaugurate the centenary of the legendary Ballets Russes de Monte Carlo.

Resin moves from intimate duets to the flashing, barely visible footwork of a quartet of dancers as King explores the possibilities of the vast and diverse field of Sephardic music, utilizing rare archival field recordings and Judeo-Spanish songs by early-music artist Jordi Savall.
