Celebrate Houston’s Creole culture with a full day of family-friendly zydeco, Creole food, games, shopping and more at the Houston Creole Heritage Festival at Discovery Green on Saturday, February 1, 2014 from 10am to 10pm.

Houston’s historical ties to Louisiana’s Creole culture goes deep. Following Katrina and other storms, the influx of families and residents of Southern Louisiana has only increased that connection. To celebrate this, the folks over at Houston S.H.O.P. (Sweet Hour of Prayer)Ministries, Inc are throwing an all day party at Discovery Green.

The event will showcase live zydeco music from Step Rideau and the Zydeco Outlaws (Step Rideau shown above), The Big Squeeze, Dikki Du and the Zydeco Krewe, J-Paul and more. Enjoy a Creole cook off, beer tent, a kid zone, festival games, and vendors offering arts and crafts.

A Mardi Gras Parade through Downtown will kick off the Houston Creole Heritage Festival as well as Houston’s Mardi Gras season. The parade will start at 8am at the intersection of Bell and Jackson. It will proceed down Bell Street of the Toyota Center to Austin Street, and turn north to conclude at Discovery Green. Click here for more parade details.
