Celebrate Asian and Pacific Islander heritage at a day-long family festival held at Asia Society Texas Center on Saturday, May 7, 2016, from 10am to 6pm.
Now in its second year, the free festival marks Asian Pacific American Heritage Month and will be jam-packed with community performances, fusion cuisine, creative activities, local vendors, family engagement, and good times for all ages.
Colorful Community Performances
The festival boasts a diverse showcase of performances and demonstrations by groups from around greater Houston.
The lineup includes cultural dances, musical performances, storytelling, martial arts and Tai Chi demos, a Bollywood workshop, and more.

Fusion Food & Snacks
Some of Houston’s most popular food trucks, collectively illustrating the city’s culinary diversity, will be lined up outside the museum on Southmore Boulevard.
Visitors can choose from Casian King, Churrasco Truck, D’Lish Curbside Bistro, It’s a Wrap, Pho-Jita Fusion, Smoosh Cookies, Tila’s Taco Truck, and Wokker TX Ranger.
Inside Asia Society Texas Center, Jade Stone Café will serve light bites and beverages, while the center will be offering mochi ice cream and Asian beers. Pop Cart Handmade Ice Pops will also be onsite, selling popsicles.
Family Fun & Activities
Both kids and grown-ups will keep busy and engaged with an impressive roster of activities representing countries and cultures from across Asia and the Pacific.
Activities will highlight Taiwanese and Persian calligraphy, traditional Chinese, Indian sari wrapping, origami, Vietnamese lanterns, Japanese folding cranes, and many more.

Visitors will be able to browse, and sometimes sample, the goods of a diverse array of vendors.

Current Exhibitions
Asia Society Texas Center’s current exhibitions will also be open for exploration.
We Chat: A Dialogue in Contemporary Chinese Art is on view in the Louisa Stude Sarofim Gallery on the second floor, while Yuriko Yamaguchi can be seen in the Sarofim Grand Hall on the first floor.
About Asian Pacific American Heritage Month
Asian Pacific American Heritage Month celebrates Asians and Pacific Islanders. The month of May was chosen for two reasons that connect Asia to North America. It both commemorates the immigration of the first Japanese to the United States on May 7, 1843, and marks the anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869. The majority of the workers who laid the railroad tracks were Chinese immigrants.
