Top 10 Things To Do for Kids & Families in Houston This Week

  • Circle Time at Evelyn’s Park | Friday, January 13 | FREE – The Bellaire parkspace hosts a reading circle event with a picture book that’s read aloud. 11am to noon.
  • Sketch ‘Em All: A Pokemon Art Show at Hardy & Nance Studios | Friday, January 13 | FREE – Houston artists pay homage to the expansive kingdom of Pokemon in the return of this art series at Hardy & Nance, after a pandemic hiatus. Kids and dogs are welcome at this event that also will be serving Eureka Heights brews, wine and cocktails. 7pm to 11pm.
  • 27th Annual Martin Luther King Day Celebration at Children’s Museum Houston | Saturday, January 14 – Honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with messages of unity, justice, and peace at Children’s Museum Houston. This year’s celebration includes a violin performance, peace march, awards ceremony, and more. $5 per person. 10am to 6pm.
  • NFL Play 60 with Reggie Rusk on Central Green at La Centerra | Saturday, January 14 | FREE – Encourage the kids to get active through the NFL Play 60 program, the league’s national youth health and wellness campaign to help stress the importance of kids’ wellbeing by being physically active for at least 60 minutes a day. Former NFL player Reggie Rusk will be one of the coaches. Noon to 2pm.
  • Family Art Workshops: Sun Prints at Discovery Green | Saturday, January 14 | FREE – Children can learn how to make cyanotype printing, also known as sun printing, at Discovery Green. 1pm to 2:30pm.
  • Family Magic & Comedy Show with Carter Blackburn at Houston Improv | Saturday, January 14 – Bring the family out to see a show for all ages. With a mixture of high energy magic, illusions, juggling, sleight of hand, danger, and lots of audience interaction, this is a can’t-miss show you will talk about the entire way home. $25 for 2, and up. 2pm.
  • Family Owl Prowl at Houston Arboretum & Nature Center | Saturday, January 14 – Learn all about owls and then join Naturalists for a hike to search for them and other nocturnal animals at Houston Arboretum & Nature Center. $50; $20 for ages 5 to 12. 6pm to 8pm.
  • Quince Expo at NRG Arena | Sunday, January 15 – Bring your daughter and plan her special day together at the Quince Expo. Get all the details covered from the dress and the venue to the photo booth, and even a party robot. $12; free for ages 10 and under. Noon to 5pm.
  • 6th Annual Family Fun Day at MATCH | Sunday, January 15 | FREE – Have a fun-filled family day with free ways for kids to explore the arts. Spanning an entire city block, the returning annual celebration will feature live performances—with shows from Main Street Theater, Prelude Music and Open Dance Project—plus bounce houses, face painters, balloon artists, stilt walkers, sidewalk chalk artists, and more. Concessions and food trucks will also be on-site. 1pm to 5pm.
  • Special Needs Sunday Night at the Ice at Discovery Green | Sunday, January 15 – Skaters with special physical or developmental challenges are invited to enjoy the rink on a night designed for them. Guests with special needs skate for free; all other skaters require a ticket for $17 (including skate rental). 6pm to 8pm.
