- Comedian George Lopez at Smart Financial Centre | Friday, January 21 – The legendary comedian, actor, and host of the OMG Hi! podcast, George Lopez comes to Sugar Land, bringing his biting wit and uproarious takes on life and culture in America. $39.50 to $99.50, but you may find cheaper or better seats on the online resale market. 8pm.
- Hops ‘N’ Hot Sauce Festival at SpindleTap Brewery | Saturday, January 22 – Benefiting Addi’s Faith Foundation, the 6th annual Hops N’ Hot Sauce Festival features samples from over 65 vendors of everything from hot sauces and salsas to seasonings, jerky and more. Plus, see brave souls tackle the Hot Pepper Eating Contest and Pizza de Muerte Eating Challenge, along with live music and DJ beats, food trucks, kid-friendly activities, and tasty SpindleTap suds. $10 at the door; free for ages 12 and under. 11am to 6pm.
- Australia Day Celebration at Platypus Brewing | Saturday, January 22 | No Cover – Toast to the Aussies with a celebration of Australia Day at the Washington Ave brewery. Enjoy live music from the Wonderfolk, a meat pie eating competition, cocktails, wine, Aussie food specialties and, of course, some ice cold beer. Noon to midnight.
- Lunar New Year Wellness Night Market at Montrose Collective | Saturday, January 22 | No Cover – The latest shopping destination on Westheimer celebrates its first Lunar New Year with a wellness market that includes local vendors specializing in yoga, physical therapy and more, while also serving up some delicious eats from AAPI-owned businesses like Dumpling Haus, Seaside Poke, Tea House and others. 5pm to 9pm.
- The Oak Ridge Boys in Concert at the Grand 1894 Opera House in Galveston | Saturday, January 22 & Sunday, January 23 – With a career that stretches back to the 1940s, the country gospel vocal quartet arrives in Galveston for back-to-back nights of their decades-spanning song catalog. $37 and up, but you may find cheaper, better, or hard-to-get seats on the online resale marketplace. Saturday at 7:30pm; Sunday at 3pm.
- Comedian Nick Kroll at House of Blues | Saturday, January 22 – The comedian and actor, who can most recently be seen in the animated feature-length musical, Sing 2, and on his Netflix series, Big Mouth, Nick Kroll comes to Downtown Houston while on the Middle Aged Boy Tour. $48. 8pm.
- Googoosh in Concert at Hobby Center | Saturday, January 22 – The Iranian pop singer and actress swings through Downtown for a stop at the Hobby Center to perform fan favorites and songs from her latest release, Twenty One. $64 and up, but you may find cheaper, better, or hard-to-get seats on the resale market. 8:30pm.
- Art Car IPA 5K Social Run/Walk at Houston Flying Saucer in Downtown | Sunday, January 23 – The Downtown beer emporium hosts this month’s edition of Saint Arnold’s Art Car IPA 5K, sending early morning runners through a 3.5 mile run/walk course and back for three complimentary Saint Arnold beers and a Texas Tamale Company breakfast. $30. 8am.
- Niki de Saint Phalle in the 1960s at Menil Collection | Ends Sunday, January 23 | FREE – Closing this month, the featured exhibition at the Menil explores the pivotal 10-year period of the French American artist’s career and brings numerous works from European collections that make their US debut. 11am to 7pm.
- Comedian Atsuko Okatsuka at the Secret Group | Sunday, January 23 – The comedian and writer, who just recently had a debut on the talk show circuit with The Late Late Show with James Corden, swings through the EaDo comedy venue for a side-splitting night of her observations and personal tales. $15 to $20. 8pm.
