Top 10 Things To Do for Kids & Families in Houston This Week

  • Lagoonfest Texas in Texas City | Wednesday, August 25 to Sunday, August 29 The largest lagoon in the state, Lagoonfest Texas is a summer celebration destination boasting beaches, bars, boats, music, a floating obstacle course, and more. Kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, electric paddle boards, and sailboats are available, plus white sand beaches, live music entertainment, a catapult swing, and an electric ferry that transports people to a luxury beach experience. Single day admission starts at $20; $15 for ages 3 to 12; free for ages 2 and under. 10am to 7pm.
  • Children’s Bingo at Levy Park | Thursday, August 26 | FREE – Help the kiddos practice letters and numbers at this half-hour Bingo session with prizes on the line. Bingo cards, markers, and prizes are provided by Levy Park. Ideal for ages 4 to 12. 4:30pm.
  • Summer Twilight Boat Tours on Buffalo Bayou | Thursday, August 26 Hop aboard for the final night of Twilight Tours along Buffalo Bayou, where you can take a 30-minute boat tour and check out native plants and wildlife like herons, fish, turtles, and the occasional alligator. Tickets are $7; $5 for ages 4 to 12. Children under the age of 4 are not permitted on boat tours. Boats run from 5:30pm to 8:30pm.
  • Toy Story Movie Screening on the Lawn at the Woodlands Mall | Thursday, August 26 | FREE – Join up with Buzz and Woody for a classic animated adventure in Disney’s Toy Story, showing outdoors as part of the Movies on the Lawn series at the Woodlands Mall. Blankets and chairs are encouraged. 7:30pm.
  • Super Saturday Vaccination Day at Schools Around Greater Houston | Saturday, August 28 | FREE – Take advantage of the final Super Saturday Vaccination Day, a free, public vaccine drive that invites students and families to get vaccinated for COVID-19 in order to save lives and overcome the pandemic. Clinics are stations at schools around Greater Houston, so check the schedule for the most up-to-date listings. Vaccines are free for everyone ages 12 and older. Parental consent is required for minors. No appointment needed. 8am to 4pm.
  • The Kids are All Write: A Writing & Poetry Workshop for Kids at Smither Park | Saturday, August 28 | FREE – Ideal for ages 7 to 12, this monthly workshop with Robin Reagler, former director of Writers in the Schools (WITS), will help kiddos have fun with writing and sharing their own stories and poems in the inspirational Smither Park. 10am to 11:30am.
  • Kingwood Pop-Up & Back 2 School Market at Town Center Park | Saturday, August 28 | No Cover – Shop from local vendors selling specialty jewelry and accessories, artwork, culinary treats, and more, plus enjoy karaoke, live music, and games. 10am to 4pm.
  • Parent & Child: A Tex-Mex Sheet Pan Meal at Central Market Cooking School | Saturday, August 28 Pair up with a little chef and prepare a Tex-Mex feast featuring guacamole, homemade salsa, sheet pan fajitas, and sugar & cinnamon dessert nachos with strawberries. Tickets are $100 for 1 parent and 1 child; $150 for 1 parent and 2 children. 1pm.
  • Texas-Louisiana Zydeco Fest at BH Ranch | Saturday, August 28 & Sunday, August 29 – This two-day festival brings a stacked line up of Zydeco masters that will get you finding the Creole groove. The event features 9 Zydeco bands across 2 days, plus food trucks, vendors, and a kids area. Tickets are $40 for a 2-day pass; $30 for a single-day pass at the gate. $5 for kids. Saturday 2pm; Sunday 3pm.
  • Los Chicos Del 512: The Selena Experience at Miller Outdoor Theatre | Saturday, August 28 | FREE | Virtual Option – Relive the star power and magic of Selena in this dynamic tribute concert that promises an evening of singing and dancing that will have the whole family cheering along. A livestream of the performance will be available on Miller Outdoor’s YouTube channel. Limited, free tickets for the covered seating are available online, two days before the event. Seating on the hill is open to the public. 8:30pm.
