Indulge in the bounty of the shrimp harvest at the free, first-ever Buffalo Bayou Shrimp Festival in Houston’s East End on Saturday, October 4, 2014 from noon to 6pm.

The inaugural Buffalo Bayou Shrimp Festival is a day of celebrating Houston’s natural resources, put on by Shrimp Boat Projects.

The grounds will be filled with family-friendly games and activities, educational booths, Karbach brews and plenty of shrimp. Overlooking the festival will be a working shrimp boat transformed into a pelican, a floating piece of art.

Urban Harvest has organized a cook-off with shrimp as the focal point. Judges will crown the best dish in the categories of: Grilled Shrimp, Etouffee, and Open Shrimp Dish. Sampling tickets will be available for purchase as the public determines the winner of the Peoples’ Choice Award.

Guests will enjoy music throughout the afternoon with a line-up from Splice Records that includes artists like Nick Gaitan & The Umbrella Man, Hayden Jones and The Roosevelt House Band, The Kelly Doyle Trio and Craig Kinsey.

This event is part of Houston Arts Alliance’s Transported + Renewed, a mix of art installations, concerts and performances that will take place in the East End neighborhood through the end of November.
