  • Hispanic Heritage Month Kickoff Event at Burnett Bayland Park | FREE – This family-friendly morning in Gulfton features mariachis, food trucks, face painting, and a special community workshop for the Burnett Bayland Master Plan. Celebrate Hispanic heritage and see the future of this important community park. 9am to 11am.
  • Writespace presents Arts in the A.M.: Labyrinth Walk at the Chapel of St. Basil | FREE – Labyrinth designer Jay Stailey guides you through this meditative space on the campus of the University of St. Thomas. Following the walk, you’ll write about your experience and share your thoughts with fellow scribes. Registration required. 9am to 11am.
  • Market Square Farmers Market at Historic Market Square Park | FREE – A brand new market opens for the fall, right in the historic heart of Downtown at Market Square Park. Calling back to the markets held here over a century ago, this market spotlights local growers and makers, offering access to seasonal fruits and veggies, as well as meats and prepared goods. Enjoy live music and other entertainment as you stroll the market. 9am to 1pm.
  • Native American Heritage Day Festival at Jesse H. Jones Park & Nature Center | FREE – Head to the Humble park’s Akokisa Village for a celebration of Indigenous culture with demonstrations, talks about life for Karankawa peoples and other Indigenous groups on the Coastal Bend, a performance by the Chikawa Aztec Dancers and more. 9am to 3pm.
  • Hummingbird Festival at Kleb Woods Nature Center | FREE – The Tomball nature center celebrates migration season for the quick and tiny bird with a festival filled with games and activities, plus animal encounters with hummingbirds and live raptor birds. From there, take a guided nature walk, a historic tour of the 1896 Kleb house, and more. 9am to 3pm.
  • Movement, Memory, Migration: A Cultural Dance Experience with Stacey Allen at the DeLuxe Theater | FREE – Another installment of Contemporary Arts Museum Houston’s community dance workshops, Movement, Memory, Migration is led by artist Stacey Allen and pulls from techniques rooted in Afro-Modern dance, praise dance traditions across the Diaspora, and somatic practices. All ages and abilities welcome. 10am.

Another installment of Contemporary Arts Museum Houston’s community dance workshops, Movement, Memory, Migration is led by artist Stacey Allen and pulls from techniques rooted in Afro-Modern dance, praise dance traditions across the Diaspora, and somatic practices. All ages and abilities welcome.

  • Gardening for Butterflies at Houston Arboretum & Nature Center – Butterflies are important pollinators that contribute greatly to our ecosystem. Learn why they matter so much and how you can make your garden a friendly zone for these winged beauties. Ages 12 and up. $35. 10:30am to 12:30pm.
  • The Market at Sawyer Yards | No Cover – The popular monthly outdoor market beneath the murals of Sawyer Yards returns from its summer hiatus, featuring a curated mix of artist mediums with a focus on folk art, artisan crafts, packaged and cottage foods. 11am to 5pm.
  • 4th Annual In A Pickle Festival at Town Center Park | FREE – The Kingwood park hosts this celebration of the humble pickle. There’s a pickle-eating contest, a pickle-judging competition, coloring contest, a pickled pet parade, music, food and more family fun. 11am to 5pm.
  • Anniversary Party at True Anomaly Brewing Company | No Cover – The brewery, founded by four guys from NASA in 2019, celebrates four years with a day of live music, a rotating tap featuring rare beers, ticketed tours and tastings, space tattoos, and more. No charge to attend, but tastings start at $55. 11am to midnight.
  • Crimson Vagabond Roadshow at MECA East End – The music and dance festival includes workshops, eclectic shopping, artistic collaborations, performance opportunities and an evening showcase inspired by sounds and movements from around the world. $15 and up. Noon to 1pm.
  • 4th Annual Barry White Birthday Party at Lucky Lounge | No Cover – Celebrate the deep baritone R&B tones of Galveston’s native son, Barry White, at an afternoon party filled with music, drink specials, giveaways, and barbecue plates in downtown Galveston. Free to attend; $10 for barbecue plates. Noon to 5pm.
  • Second Saturday Open Studio at Sawyer Yards | FREE – Explore more than 350 open art studios, check out a makers market with original wares for sale, grab a craft brew and wander the six buildings that make up Sawyer Yards. It’s a chance to meet artists, learn about their work and purchase unique goods and gifts. Noon to 5pm.

The brewery, founded by four guys from NASA in 2019, celebrates four years with a day of live music, a rotating tap featuring rare beers, ticketed tours and tastings, space tattoos, and more.

No Cover; $55 for tastings | 11am to midnight

  • Mediterranean Festival at St. George Orthodox Church – Celebrate the culture of the Mediterranean with food, music, a silent auction and other family-friendly activities at the West University church. It’s a chance to revel in the diversity of the countries and heritage along one of the world’s most signficant bodies of water. $5; tickets for food purchases are $2. This event is cashless. Noon to 10pm.
  • Ma’am Jam at Station Improv & Sketch Comedy Theater | FREE – This improv jam for female and female-identifying performers and students is an open practice for those who are already practicing improv comedy. Bond with fellow performers, get your reps in on stage and meet folks from the Station. All levels are welcome; absolutely no spectators. 4pm to 6pm.
  • Stories of the Great 1900 Storm at Trinity Episcopal Church | FREE – Commemorating the 123rd anniversary of the Great 1900 Storm, fourth-generation Galvestonian Linda Macdonald shares the experiences of many who faced the storm, including her grandfather. A light reception will follow. 5pm.
  • Look Closer Opening Reception at Archway Gallery | FREE – The Montrose gallery hosts this exhibit inspired by Santa Fe and featuring new works by Denise Giordano and guest artist Fatima Donaldson. The artists will be present at the opening, with an artists talk at 6:30pm. There will be complementary light bites, wine, and valet parking. Donations are welcome. 5pm to 8pm.
  • Football: UH Cougars vs. Rice Owls at Rice Stadium – Rice hosts this year’s Bayou Bucket face-off between the Houston rival colleges. $25 and up. 6pm.
  • Galveston Sand Crab 5K, 10K & Kids Beach Mile at East Beach – This evening race event features a course lit with LED lights to guide the way along the beach. There’s also beer, refreshments and more. Spend your evening having fun and getting fit. Flashlights or headlamps are required. $25 and up. 6pm to 10pm.

  • Car Culture Show at La Centerra at Cinco Ranch | FREE – Head to the Alamo Theatre’s parking lot in Katy to see more than 50 classic cars, chat with their owners, enjoy music from a live DJ and more. Afterwards, check out the nearby shops and restaurants to spend the day in Cinco Ranch. 9am to 11am.
  • All About the Hive: Celebrating Bees & Nature’s Sweet Treats at Evelyn R. Rubenstein JCC – This family-friendly Rosh Hashanah event features Lucas Miller sharing information on our important connection to these fascinating pollinators. His multimedia rockfest with quirky, clever tunes are packed with energy and science. Recommended for ages 10 and under. $13. 10am and 2pm.
  • Creole Brunch Cooking Class at Central Market Cooking School – Bring classic flavors of New Orleans to your brunch game in this class where you’ll learn to make shrimp remoulade salad, Eggs Sardou (poached eggs, spinach, artichokes and Hollandaise) and Bananas Foster French Toast. 18+. $70. 11am to 1:30pm.
  • BrisketU at Texas Leaguer Brewing Company – Discover how to master the art of the perfect brisket at this class hosted by the Missouri City brewery that’s perfect for experienced grillers and newbies alike. Learn about BBQ pits, choosing the right cut of brisket, trimming techniques, rubs and prep, wood selection, smoke profiles, and more. $94. 11am to 2pm.
  • The Diaspora Food Festival at Karbach Brewing Company | FREE – Experience African-influenced cuisine from around the globe at this foodie event in Spring Branch. There’s also local merchants, live music and entertainment, drinks and other fun. 11am to 6pm.
  • 49ers Opening Day Celebration at Social Beer Garden | No Cover – Catch the San Francisco team’s opening NFL game on the Midtown sports bar’s jumbo TV and enjoy raffles, giveaways, 49ers swag, live DJs, and Sour Dough Sam. Noon.
  • Bayou City Outdoors presents Gear Swap at Axelrad | FREE – Show up with your tents, bikes, kayaks, camping gear, paddles, backpacks and other outdoor paraphernalia to sell or swap it. Need gear? This is the place for you. Sellers must email Bayou City Outdoors in order to reserve a space. Registration is requested for buyers and sellers. Noon to 3pm.

Associate Curator of Modern Art Natalie Dupêcher introduces the new installation of paintings by Chilean Surrealist Roberto Matta. She will also walk visitors through the Art Has Many Facets  display, which pays homage to a 1963 exhibition and explores artists’ fascination with faceted geometric forms.

  • Let’s Play Loteria with Barrio Dogs at The Ballroom at Bayou Place – Play some rounds of lotería at this lively fundraising event that helps support Barrio Dogs, who’s mission is to create a better future for pets and the community. Enjoy a hearty tamale and nacho bar, plus drinks and a lotería costume contest. $50. 1pm to 5pm.
  • Photomundo Quince Expo at NRG Park | FREE – The massive Quince showcase brings photographers, event planners, designers and other vendors to the Bayou City to help families plan for this once-in-a-lifetime rite of passage. Look for special performances and more throughout the day. 1pm to 6pm.
  • Bob Moses DJ Set at Clé Day & Night – The Canadian electronic duo makes a stop in Houston for a house music set that will have you dancing the end of the weekend away. Fashionable pool attire encouraged. 21+. $25 and up. 2pm to 8pm.

  • Moneybagg Yo in Concert at Toyota Center – The Memphis rapper hits up Toyota Center for a night of songs from his latest release, Hard to Love, and other hits. Finesse2Tymes, Big Boogie and more open the show. $49 and up. 7pm.
  • Iann Dior in Concert at Warehouse Live – Fresh off the release of his third album, Leave Me Where You Found Me, the Puerto Rican emo rapper brings chart topping songs like “Mood” to the EaDo stage. $25.50 and up. 8pm.
