  • 10th Annual Ohana Surf Dog Competition in Galveston | FREE – This 10th edition returns to 27th and Seawall, where dogs compete on surf boards, and awards are given based on ride length, technique, confidence, and any tricks performed. Proceeds help support the mission of Galveston Island Humane Society. Free to watch; $25 to register a dog. 8am to noon.
  • Community Volunteering at Meals on Wheels | FREE – Meet at Meals on Wheels’ Stuart Street Warehouse in Midtown and help assemble meals to be delivered to those in need. No prior experience necessary. Closed-toe shoes and masks are required. 8:30am to Noon.
  • Goat Yoga at Little Woodrow’s Heights – The Heights outpost of this popular drinkery hosts a morning workout that features downward dog and curious goats interacting with the yogis. The 45-minute class is followed by 15 minutes of goat time. Bring your own mat or rent one, and stick around after class to hang out and enjoy the company of new friends. $45 and up. 10am.
  • 10th Annual Albatross Old Smokey Throwdown at the Albatross | FREE – The Downtown Galveston bar hosts a smoked barbecue throwdown where small teams compete using only an Old Smokey grill. Categories include spam, chicken wings, and bacon. Tasting times vary by category. 10am to 6pm.
  • Genealogy Project at Czech Center Houston Museum – This series of classes shows you how to begin your family search, create a pedigree chart with the information you have, and use online databases to put it all together. $20; space is limited. 10am to 11:30am.
  • 15th Anniversary Celebration at Pearland Town Center | FREE – This day of activities, discounts and fun marks the town center’s 15th anniversary. Guests can pick up a passport at participating businesses on the day of the event for a chance to win a $100 gift card. 10am to 4pm.
  • Christmas in July at Pasadena Mistletoe Market – Beat the heat and ease into the holiday spirit at this off-season market where you can shop ’til you drop for home, holiday and garden decor, plus gourmet food items, handmade jewelry, women’s and children’s clothing and more. $5. 10am to 4:30pm.

The Rice University arts gallery is transformed for Summer Jam, offering an indoor farmers market, hot food vendors, art activities, face painters, the Texas Bubblers and gallery tours.

  • Inprint Writing Workout Hyperreal: Gray Foy at the Menil Drawing Institute | FREE – This curator talk and interactive writing activity will flex your artistic muscles while focusing on the exhibition, Hyperreal: Gray Foy. Registration required. 11am to 1pm.
  • Red, White & Brut Bastille Day Bash at Brasserie 19 | No Cover – The River Oaks restaurant welcomes Veuve Clicquot and Moët Hennessey for an afternoon of bubbles, rosé, specialty cocktails, food specials and more. Noon to 3pm.

  • Vegan Vibez Summer Festival at the Raven Tower – Check out more than 70 vendors serving up delicious vegan foods at this Northside food festival that also includes a cooking contest, a rollerskate/dance battle, a vegan fashion runway show, giveaways, live music and more. $20. 2pm to 11pm.
  • Author Chris Barton: Glitter Everywhere at Brazos Bookstore | FREE – The author talks about his book, which traces the good, bad and just plain weird world of glitter in this event for kids and their caregivers. Free to attend; books for signing must be purchased at the bookstore. 3pm.
  • Pretty Darn Small: Tiny Art, Art Show at Hardy & Nance Studios | FREE – The annual exhibition returns to the near Downtown art gallery, featuring works that are 4 inches or smaller. 5pm to 9pm.
  • Flea by Night at Discovery Green | No Cover – The popular outdoor market is back with a slate of local businesses along the pathways of the Downtown park space, plus live music and food trucks. 6pm to 10pm.
  • Possums & Popsicles at Houston Arboretum & Nature Center – Grab a frozen treat, enjoy a refreshing Saint Arnold’s root beer, and get up close and personal with live wild animals from Texas Wildlife Rehabilitation Coalition. $50; $20 for ages 5 to 12. 7pm to 9pm.
  • Brewsology Beer Fest at Houston Museum of Natural Science – Beer nerds can hit up HMNS after hours for a night of brewsology. The event features dozens of local craft breweries and cideries, and your tickets include access to the museum and exhibits, and beer samplings. $50 and up; VIP options available. 7pm to 11pm.

Get ready for a good time in celebration of the Mid-Main concert venue and backyard dive, Continental Club, when they host a Customer Appreciation Party honoring 23 years of service.   • Doomsday Wrestling presents Hot n’ Sticky Summer Showdown at Urban South HTX – Roachella, Top Banana, Larry Christmas, Doll Face and more hit the ring as part of Houston’s very own comedy wrestling showcase. $15 and up. 9pm.
  • Sorry Papi Tour: The All Girl Party at House of Blues – Dance the night away with an all-girl DJ line up spinning Top 40 and reggaeton music, immersive art installations, themed cocktails, photo ops, and more. $25 and up. 9pm.
  • Saymynitti DJ Set at Stereo Live – Hard trap pioneer Say My Name teams up with DJ and producer Nitti Gritti for a night in West Houston on the Rave Revival Tour. $10. 10pm to 2am.

  • I Scream for Ice Cream at Children’s Museum Houston – Celebrate National Ice Cream Day by learning how to make your own tasty, frozen treat out of coffee creamer.
