Opened in 2002, the gleaming facade of Hobby Center for the Performing Arts has beckoned enthusiasts of Broadway, theatre, music, and more into its expansive 2,650-seat Sarofim Hall.
There, attendees enjoy one of the busiest schedules in the Theater District that includes productions, plays, musicals, touring musicians, opera, orchestras, and more. From The Lion King and Hamilton to Cats and Book of Mormon, Sarofim Hall has played host to the biggest Broadway productions, in addition to serving as the main stage venue for the non-profit musical theatre production company, Theatre Under the Stars (TUTS).
Also within Hobby Center, the 500-seat Zilkha Hall showcases programs for smaller and mid-sized performing arts groups in the Houston metropolitan area, serving as a key facilitator in the growth of the arts in the city’s backyard.
One of the most popular theaters in Houston, Sarofim Hall consists of three tiers of seating, including boxes that flank either side of the stage.
Wine and beverage service can be found throughout the lobby and food is available at the Grand Lobby Bistro, 90 minutes before the performance, or at the Diana American Grill (hours of operation vary).
Parking & Getting There
Parking can be found at the Hobby Center garage with access from Rusk and Walker Streets. The underground Theater District garage is located a block away, and several other garages in the nearby vicinity can be used for Hobby Center performances. Street parking can also be found but it tends to fill quickly on performance nights.
MetroRail features a Green and Purple line station on the same block. It is recommended to arrive at least a half hour ahead of your scheduled performance to ensure time for parking and accessing the venue.
