The concrete Brutalist building at Texas Avenue and Louisiana Street has stood since 1968 and houses the Alley Theatre production company, which is the oldest professional theatre company in Texas since its founding in 1947 and is the third longest resident theatre in the United States.

Each year, Alley Theatre Company produces up to 16 plays in two theaters, the 774-capacity Hubbard Theatre and the 296-seat Neuhaus Theatre. The annual program ranges from classic to contemporary play productions, touching on everything from drama and comedy, to sci-fi and historical fiction.

The main stage at the Hubbard Theatre is laid out in traditional clamshell seating in as many as fifteen rows. The downstairs Neuhaus Theatre is smaller but with a more intimate configuration as the rectangular stage juts into the middle of the room, with as many as six rows of seating along three of its sides.

Because of the intimate nature of these spaces, Alley Theatre does not permit late seating in areas that are disruptive to the audience and will return guests who must leave the performance to the back of the house and not their ticketed seats in the Hubbard Theatre. There is no late seating or re-seating in the smaller Neuhaus Theatre.

Wine, beverages, and snacks are available before the performance and during intermission. Restaurant dining is available at several locations in the immediate surrounding Theater District area

Parking & Getting There

Parking is available at the attached Alley Theatre garage, with entrances on Louisiana and Smith Streets, as well as the underground Theater District garage with access on Texas Avenue.

Within two blocks of Alley Theatre, the MetroRail offers service at the Green and Purple line station just outside Bayou Place. Street parking is also available though it tends to fill up quickly on performance nights. It is recommended to arrive at least half an hour prior to the performance to ensure enough time to park and access the theater.
