• Comedian Atsuko Okatsuka at Houston Improv | Tuesday, January 24 – The comedian and writer, most recently seen in her HBO stand-up special The Intruder, swings through the Spring Branch comedy venue for a side-splitting night of her observations and personal tales. • Houston Auto & Boat Show at NRG Center | Wednesday, January 25 to Sunday, January 29 – Two big annual H-Town events return to NRG in the same weekend, with five days of the latest and best vehicles available on land and sea. $15 in advance; $20 at the door; free for ages 4 and under. Times vary.
• Cirque du Soleil presents Kooza at Sam Houston Race Park | Wednesday, January 25 to Sunday, January 29 | Opening Weekend – Returning to Houston for the second time in 10 years, the thrilling circus arts of Cirque du Soleil excite under the big top in Northwest Houston, featuring acrobatics, daredevil performances, laughter and wonder. $49 and up. • Difference & Diaspora: Transnational Asian Identity in Art Panel Discussion at CAMH | Thursday, January 26 | FREE – Artists Anh Hà Bùi, Matt Manalo, Diane Severin Nguyen and Preetika Rajgariah join Rice professor Dr. Alden Sajor Marte-Wood for a discussion on transnational Asian identity formation and representation, free at the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston. 6:30pm to 8pm.
• Amy Winehouse: Jazz Under the Stars at Post Houston | Thursday, January 26 – Take in the views from atop Post’s Skylawn at this tribute to the iconic songstress, Amy Winehouse. $55. 8pm to 9:30pm.
• Drunk Shakespeare at the Emerald Theatre | Thursday, January 26 to Saturday, January 28 | Opening Weekend – Five professional actors assemble on stage to perform one of the great plays of Shakespeare with a catch—one actor downs five shots of whiskey prior to the performance and the other actors strive to keep the script on track. $39 and up. • Intertwined, Wined & Dined at Houston Botanic Garden | Friday, January 27 – Enjoy an exclusive after hours sunset tour of the Houston Botanic Garden and its newest exhibition, Steve Tobin’s Intertwined: Exploring Nature’s Networks. Then, take a seat around the courtyard for an immersive 5-course pop-up dinner and wine pairing from Chef Thomas Stacy. $260. 5pm to 8:30pm.
• Houston, We Need a Title Opening Reception at Reeves Art & Design | Friday, January 27 | FREE – In Montrose, Reeves brings together the works of more than 25 Texas artists in a showcase that spans multiple styles and eclectic tastes. Take a moment in the week leading up to submit your title idea for the show and it just may be announced as the winner at the opening reception. 6pm to 9pm.
