  • Comedian Atsuko Okatsuka at Houston Improv | Tuesday, January 24 – The comedian and writer, most recently seen in her HBO stand-up special The Intruder, swings through the Spring Branch comedy venue for a side-splitting night of her observations and personal tales. Tickets are sold by the table; $40 for 2, and up. 7:30pm.
  • Houston Auto & Boat Show at NRG Center | Wednesday, January 25 to Sunday, January 29 – Two big annual H-Town events return to NRG in the same weekend, with five days of the latest and best vehicles available on land and sea. $15 in advance; $20 at the door; free for ages 4 and under. Times vary.
  • Cirque du Soleil presents Kooza at Sam Houston Race Park | Wednesday, January 25 to Sunday, January 29 | Opening Weekend – Returning to Houston for the second time in 10 years, the thrilling circus arts of Cirque du Soleil excite under the big top in Northwest Houston, featuring acrobatics, daredevil performances, laughter and wonder. $49 and up. Times vary.
  • Difference & Diaspora: Transnational Asian Identity in Art Panel Discussion at CAMH | Thursday, January 26 | FREE – Artists Anh Hà Bùi, Matt Manalo, Diane Severin Nguyen and Preetika Rajgariah join Rice professor Dr. Alden Sajor Marte-Wood for a discussion on transnational Asian identity formation and representation, free at the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston. 6:30pm to 8pm.
  • Amy Winehouse: Jazz Under the Stars at Post Houston | Thursday, January 26 – Take in the views from atop Post’s Skylawn at this tribute to the iconic songstress, Amy Winehouse. $55. 8pm to 9:30pm.
  • Drunk Shakespeare at the Emerald Theatre | Thursday, January 26 to Saturday, January 28 | Opening Weekend – Five professional actors assemble on stage to perform one of the great plays of Shakespeare with a catch—one actor downs five shots of whiskey prior to the performance and the other actors strive to keep the script on track. $39 and up. Times vary.
  • Intertwined, Wined & Dined at Houston Botanic Garden | Friday, January 27 – Enjoy an exclusive after hours sunset tour of the Houston Botanic Garden and its newest exhibition, Steve Tobin’s Intertwined: Exploring Nature’s Networks. Then, take a seat around the courtyard for an immersive 5-course pop-up dinner and wine pairing from Chef Thomas Stacy. $260. 5pm to 8:30pm.
  • Houston, We Need a Title Opening Reception at Reeves Art & Design | Friday, January 27 | FREE – In Montrose, Reeves brings together the works of more than 25 Texas artists in a showcase that spans multiple styles and eclectic tastes. Take a moment in the week leading up to submit your title idea for the show and it just may be announced as the winner at the opening reception. 6pm to 9pm.
  • Honor by Suzanne Bocanegra & Lili Taylor at Moody Center for the Arts | Friday, January 27 | FREE – Houston artist Suzanne Bocanegra presents an original “artist talk” performed by film and television actor Lili Taylor, accompanied by vocalists from Rice’s Shepherd School of Music. 8pm to 9pm.
  • Performing Arts Houston presents Gazillion Bubble Show at Jones Hall | Saturday, January 28 – The young and young-at-heart will be mesmerized by bubbles filling the air at this one-day only show that also features high-impact special effects, laser lighting, interactive performances and audience participation. $29 and up. 11am and 3pm.
  • 2023 Lunar New Year Festival at Asia Society Texas Center | Saturday, January 28 | FREE – Welcome in the Year of the Rabbit with cultural performances, arts and crafts activities and globally-inspired foods at Asia Society in the Museum District. While free to attend and enjoy the festival, performances from the Huaxing Arts Group Houston are ticketed and cost $10. 11am to 4pm.
  • ’80s Winter Prom Night at William Price Distilling | Saturday, January 28 – Grab your best polyester for a throwback prom night in Garden Oaks that features cocktails, photo ops and the crowning of the prom king and queen. $25; $40 for 2. 7pm to 11pm.
  • Comedian Jo Koy at Toyota Center | Saturday, January 28 – One of today’s premiere stand-up acts, Jo Koy offers a uniquely relatable blend of comedy that pulls inspiration from his colorful family and delights audiences at sold-out arenas around the world. $59.50 and up. 8pm.
  • Galveston Museum Day in Galveston | Saturday, January 28 & Sunday, January 29 – Score tickets at discounted rates to nearly a dozen of Galveston Island’s museums, including the Railroad Museum, Moody Mansion, Bryan Museum, the Grand 1894 Opera House, and more. Prices and times vary.
  • Lunar New Year Festival & Fried Rice Cook-Off at The Phoenix on Westheimer | Sunday, January 29 – Try a wide array of interpretations of fried rice, pulling from a variety of ethnic backgrounds, at this 6th annual cook-off in Montrose.
