There’s a new dance company in town…and their first performance is this week! Welcome to the H-Town arts scene, Koda Contemporary Ballet.
One of the things I love about our city is how the arts are as diverse as our population. Teatro Loft has a show performed in Spanish this week, but the themes are universal. Faith is front and center in two performances this week, one at MATCH and the other at The Ensemble Theatre.
Sister is back at Stages, where she’s part of a Las Vegas-themed fundraiser. Queensbury Theatre has a killer cast for its latest musical. There’s a dance festival and Delta Blues narrated by an Academy Award winner.
This week’s shout out goes to the cast of A Nice Indian Boy at Asia Society Texas Center. I was charmed by this story and loved how it examines themes of culture, of who belongs, of family expectations and romance. It closes Sunday, so get there if you can.

29th Annual Festival of Originals at Theatre Southwest | Friday & Saturday – The company stages performances of new works by playwrights from Houston and beyond. $24. 8pm. Get tickets.
DroneArt Show: Harry Potter at Constellation Field | Friday & Saturday – The magic of the Wizarding World takes to the sky as 1,200 illuminated drones recreate iconic Harry Potter characters and moments above the home of the Sugar Land Space Cowboys. Set to a live performance of John Williams iconic score and dialogue from the films, the open-air spectacle also features interactive LED wristbands and a fully immersive experience for witches, wizards, and Muggles of all ages. Curtain Call! Closing This Week
Hark! This weekend, the 52nd Houston Shakespeare Festival draws to a close as The Tempest blows its final gust on Friday and The Comedy of Errors makes its final slip up on Saturday.
Nothing ironic here: Jagged Little Pill goes down for the last time at The Art Factory on Sunday. That’s also the day Aerial Roots Theatre Company’s family-centric romcom A Nice Indian Boy goes home at Asia Society Texas Center.
