Even though the official start of summer still more than a week away, the summer season is certainly upon us. Cool indoors and muggy outdoors are once again the norm.
And there’s a full weekend ahead with the Houston Beer Festival taking over City Hall and Hermann Square Park in Downtown, Hairspray delighting audiences on the hillside at Miller Outdoor Theatre, the LGBT celebration Rainbow on the Green taking over Discovery Green, Houston’s first ever Major League Lacrosse event and much, much more.

- First Date at Hobby Center | Daily – TUTS Underground presents its production of the hilarious Broadway musical that takes place in real time as blind date newbie Aaron is set up with serial dater Casey. $39 to $49; limited discounted $19.50 to $34.50 tickets available. Times vary.
- Houston Asian American Pacific Islander Film Festival at International Trade Center | Friday and Saturday | FREE – Embrace Asian Pacific American culture through the screening of films like Fatakra and Saving Face during HAAPIFF at the International Trade Center. Actor and producer Brian Yang of Linsanity will be in attendance for a discussion with the audience after the screening of his film on Friday evening. Premium seating tickets and packages start at $10. 6pm to 10pm Friday; 10am to 10pm Saturday.
- Hairspray at Miller Outdoor Theatre | Friday and Saturday – Sing along to tunes from the Tony Award-winning musical Hairspray during this free performance at Miller Outdoor Theatre. 8:15pm both nights.
- Houston Astros vs. Seattle Mariners Series at Minute Maid Park | Friday to Sunday – Cheer the Astros to a victory over the Seattle Mariners during this three game series at Minute Maid Park. - A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Houston Family Arts Center | Friday to Sunday – Catch the family-friendly production of Shakespeare’s comedic tale of fairies and fantasy. $23; limited discounted $11.50 tickets available. Times vary.
- Sunset Boulevard at The Kaleidoscope Theater | Friday to Sunday – Hollywood noir meets Broadway razzle-dazzle in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical adaptation of Billy Wilder’s classic film. Produced by Bayou City Theatrics. $40; limited discounted$20 tickets available. Times vary.
- Houston Beer Festival at Hermann Square Park | Saturday and Sunday – Throw one back at the Houston Beer Festival. - The 39 Steps at Stage Door Inc. | Friday to Sunday – See the hilarious theatrical version of Alfred Hitchcock’s The 39 Steps from Stage Door Inc.
