Plan Your Weekend: October 6 to 9, 2022

• Houston Symphony presents Celebrating Black Composers at Jones Hall – Children and adults will love this exploration of the impact Black artists have had on music, including the work of Duke Ellington, Jimi Hendrix, and others. From classical and ragtime to jazz and rock and more, multiple styles are represented. Kids will also love the Symphony’s instrument petting zoo. $22 and up. 10am and 11:30am.
• Amazing Ariel at the Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center – That darling from under the sea, Ariel, makes an appearance for story time, crafts and photo ops in Sugar Land. $15 for ages 1 and up. 10am to 2pm.
• Poder Hispano/Hispanic Power at Houston Botanic Garden – This Hispanic Heritage Month event features kids’ cultural arts activities, music, folklórico presentations, plus food and shopping from Latin American countries and vendors. $10. 10am to 2pm.
• Pumpkin Patch Festival at Westheimer United Methodist Church | FREE – This family-friendly fall festival includes food trucks, games, face painting and a vendor market. Entry to the festival is free; some activities will have an additional cost. 10am to 3pm.
• Black College Expo at NRG Park | FREE – This event is designed to help students learn more about opportunities available to them, and encourage them to apply and graduate from a degree or certificate program. Expect seminars, how-tos, guest speakers and more. 10am to 4pm.
• Book Signing and Q&A with Debra Atlas at Barnes & Noble Town & Country | FREE – Debra Atlas, author of You Aren’t Depression’s Victim, leads a Q&A about strategies to deal with depression and how to step back from the edge, as well as how to help others in your life do the same. 11am to 1pm.
• The Market at Sawyer Yards | No Cover – Take advantage of amazing fall weather and explore the folk art, maker-is-the-seller. creations, and artisan crafts, packaged specialty foods and more at the monthly pop-up market in the heart of Arts District Houston. 11am to 5pm.
• 7th Annual Celebration Seabrook in Meador Park | FREE – Look for live music, a kids zone, art and food trucks by the bay at this annual music and art fest in Seabrook. 11am to 7:30pm.
• 3rd Annual Läktoberfest at Lake Houston Brewery | No Cover – This Oktoberfest celebration offers special brews, live music, themed merch, food and fun with stunning views of Lake Houston. 11am to 9pm.
• Oktoberfest 2022 at Southern Star Brewery | No Cover – Head to Conroe for this family-friendly celebration including special brews, live music, German foods, games and more. Noon to 8pm.
• DaCamera presents Stop, Look and Listen! at the Menil Collection | FREE – Pianist Jose-Miguel Yamal and his quartet highlight the return of this free outdoor jazz concert. 3pm.
• Thrills and Chills Market at Bobcat Teddy’s Ice House | No Cover – Shop unique items from more than 20 vendors at this Halloween-themed market. Food and drink are available for purchase. 5pm to 10pm.
• College Football: Houston Cougars vs. Tulane University at TDECU Stadium – The Green Wave come to the Bayou City to take on the Coogs on the gridiron. $8.50 and up. 6pm.
• Galveston Art Walk in Downtown Galveston | FREE – Take a stroll through galleries, artist studios and local businesses on this exploration of local artwork in Downtown Galveston. 6pm to 8pm.
• Mi Casa, Your Casa at Discovery Green | FREE – Opening night of this evening of art, inspiration and fun features a performance by Lifted by Mimbre, a UK-based, all-woman acrobatic dance troupe. 6pm to 10pm.
• Textoberfest at Constellation Field – Enjoy tastings of beers from around Texas while the family enjoys ballpark fare and kids of all ages can participate in batting practice and enjoy other outdoor fun. $25 without beer tastings; starts at $35 with beer tastings; $15 ages 4 to 15; free ages 3 and under. 7pm to 11pm.
• Mercury Chamber Orchestra presents Love’s Philosophy at Wortham Center – In a program created by internationally acclaimed conductor and Houston native John Axelrod, this evocative performance features the music of Mahler, Leonard Bernstein, Haydn and more. $10 and up; $20 for a virtual ticket (accessible through Sunday, October 16). 7:30pm.
• Women of God Rock Concert at Rockefeller’s – The evening features gospel music and tunes from two-time X-Factor contestant Panda Ross. $20. 7:30pm.
• The Nightmare Before Christmas Movie Screening at Sugar Land Town Square | FREE – Bring your lawn chair or blanket, family and friends and watch the classic Tim Burton animated movie under the stars. 7:30pm to 9pm.
• Bonobo in Concert at White Oak Music Hall – Groove to the sounds of the British trip hop musician and DJ at a chill show on the downstairs stage. $35 and up. 8pm.
• We Outside Comedy Tour at NRG Arena – The nationwide comedy tour brings a six-piece of comedians to the NRG Arena stage, featuring sets from Deon Cole, Corey Holcomb, Gary Owen, Tony Rock, Ryan Davis and Kelly Kellz. $59.75 and up. 8pm.
• Christopher Cross in Concert at the Heights Theater – The singer-songwriter performs his classic hits like “Sailing” and “Arthur’s Theme (The Best That You Can Do),” plus newer works. $48 and up. 8pm.
• 2022 FotoFest Biennial Dance Night at The Flat | FREE with RSVP – This evening of dancing, food and drinks celebrates the 2022 FotoFest Biennial exhibitions If I Had A Hammer, African Cosmologies Redux and Ten by Ten. Multiple DJs spin tunes, including Malcolm Bravo and DJ Sun. 8pm to 2am. 
• Wizard Fest at Last Concert Cafe – There’s magic to be had at this fantasy-themed evening, featuring a cosplay costume party, wizard-themed drinks, wizard trivia and more. $15 and up. 9pm.

• 10th Annual Lamborghini Festival at Market Street in the Woodlands | FREE – Lamborghini owners and lovers alike can head to Market Street to check out Lamborghinis from around the country. 10am to 2pm
• The Craft Movie Screening & Brunch at Alamo Drafthouse La Centerra – Enjoy your favorite brunch classics while watching the 1996 witch-wannabe cult classic movie, The Craft. $11. 11am.
• Lit in the Fifth at the DeLuxe Theater – This day-long event celebrates the African American literary tradition. It includes the launch of author Lindsay Gary’s The New Red Book: A Guide to 50 of Houston’s Black Historical and Cultural Sites, as well as readings and discussions by local Black women writers, workshops and more. $10 in advance; $15 at the door. Noon to 5pm.
• Fiesta in the Square at Redemption Square | FREE – Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, this afternoon event features live music from Randy Cobio Band, dancing and food. 3pm.
• Stack Our Shack at the Evelyn Rubenstein JCC | FREE – Celebrate the Jewish holiday of Sukkot at this afternoon family event for children ages 10 and under. Guests may build their own sukkot out of a variety of building materials including Legos, construction paper, clay and more, then help decorate the J’s community sukkot and enjoy a snack in it. Free, but registration is requested. 3pm.
• Galveston Symphony Orchestra at the Grand 1894 Opera House – The Island’s orchestra offers a concert of Haydn concertos, featuring cellist Brinton Smith. $25 and up. 4pm.
• Houston Dynamo FC vs. LA Galaxy at PNC Stadium – The Dynamo welcome an old rival to town for their final match of the season. $20 and up. 4pm.
• Houston Grand Opera Presents Songs on the Water at Allen’s Landing – Take a boat ride on Buffalo Bayou and enjoy an intimate opera recital along with wine and snacks. $75. Departures at 4pm and 6pm.
• International Cup at Houston Polo Club – This exciting match features six chukkers of world-class polo, a best red-white-and-blue outfit competition, Champagne divot stomp at halftime, and casual menu selections from Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse along with a premium bar. $35; $15 for ages 12 and under. Boxes for 2 to 20 guests range from $89 to $895. 4pm.
• Writespace presents Planning Session & Write-In at Melange Creperie | FREE – Writers can kick off their plans and outlines for upcoming NANOWIMO and more with like-minded scribes to offer support and company. The write-in takes place at the Heights location of Melange Creperie, where writers can grab coffee and sustenance for a fee. 4pm to 6pm.
• Kinetic Ensemble presents The Wilderness Anthology at MATCH – The Houston-based ensemble performs a series of pieces inspired by nature, including two world premieres. $30. 6pm. 
• Sunday Fun Day Backyard Bash at the Continental Club – The Nightowls, a 10-piece soul dance band, take the stage on the Mid Main block. $10 in advance; $15 at the door. 6pm.
• Kentucky Headhunters in Concert at Main Street Crossing – The country and Southern rock band takes the stage in Tomball. $72 and up. 7pm.
• Noah Cyrus in Concert at House of Blues – The pop singer performs as part of her The Hardest Part tour. Gigi opens the show. $27.50 and up. 7pm.
• Gracias Christmas Cantata at NRG Arena | FREE – Take in a three-show performance that celebrates the season with a nativity opera, a musical of Christmas carols, and a rendition of Handel’s Oratorio “Messiah.” 7pm.
• Carly Rae Jepsen in Concert at 713 Music Hall – The So Nice Tour brings the pop singer through Houston in support of her latest release, The Loneliest Time. $43.50 and up. 8pm.
• Los Angeles Azules in Concert at Smart Financial Centre – Sing along if you know the words when the Mexican cumbia band, Los Angeles Azules, brings their 40 Años tour to Sugar Land. $59.50 and up. 8pm.
