Spindletop originally opened in 1972 and reopened in 2010 with a complete makeover following Hurricane Ike’s 2008 visit. It takes its name from the historic oil well on Beaumont’s Spindletop Hill, which struck paydirt on January 10, 1901. That breakthrough ushered in America’s biggest oil boom and made Texas – and Houston – what we are today.

And today, Spindletop restaurant sits and revolves 34 stories above Downtown Houston, perched atop the Hyatt Regency Houston hotel. It’s unique amongst Downtown Houston restaurants. The calm, slow-moving restaurant makes a complete turn every 45 minutes, so you’re sure to see the city from every angle during your meal. With modern decor and low-light ambience (much softer than in the photo above), it makes for the perfect spot to celebrate birthdays, family reunions, anniversaries, engagements, promotions or a just a night out.
