In our Park Spotlight series, we take a closer look at Houston’s vast array of public recreational areas to shine a light on hidden and not so hidden gems. This week we’ll be spotlighting Charlton Park. Join us as we take a trip through Houston, park by park.
Located about 10 minutes from Hobby Airport, Charlton Park offers both nearby Park Place residents and visitors 8.73 acres of greenspace refuge from the hustle and bustle of daily life and also engaging activities/classes courtesy of the Park’s community center.
Featuring tennis courts, basketball pavilion, playground equipment and more, this Southeast Houston park has something for everyone in this amenity-filled environment appreciated by birds, animals, and park visitors of all ages.
Directly across Sims Bayou, visitors should be sure to observe the beauty of the nearby Glenbrook Golf Course and Park as well as the Houston Audubon Society’s Sims Bayou Nature Center, adjacent to the parks.
Before You Visit
Though the park is open dawn to dusk 7-days-a-week it is worth noting the hours of the Community Center.
During the fall/winter/spring seasons, office hours for the community center are Monday to Thursday noon to 8pm; Friday 11am to 7pm; closed Sundays.
During the summer season, office hours for the community center are Monday to Friday 8am to 7pm; closed Saturday and Sunday.
