Party Downtown at the Mardi Gras Jamboree and Gumbo Showdown

Enjoy gumbo, live New Orleans music and beer from Saint Arnold’s Brewing Company at Downtown’s brand new free Mardi Gras Jamboree & Gumbo Showdown on Saturday, March 1, 2014 from 4pm to 8:30pm.

Soak in the flavorful spells and funky brass sounds of New Orleans at this special gumbo cook off, concert and outdoor party at Market Square Park.

Gumbo Showdown and Cookoff

Culinary teams will vie for the title “Best Gumbo in H-Town,” while each slices and spices their own unique roux. Free tastings will be available to the public from 4pm to 6pm, with judging and awards immediately following.

Live Music from New Orleans

The Hustlers Brass Band from New Orleans will take to the stage for an hour at 5pm, bringing their unique blend of R&B, funk, gospel traditional jazz, zydeco, Latin and be-bop.

T-Bird and the Breaks will keep the party going from 7pm to 8:30pm with an eclectic mix of funk and jazz grooves.

Illuminated Art Car Drive-About

To wrap up the park-based activities, there will be an illuminated Art Car Drive-About circling Market Square Park around 9pm, inviting revelers to keep the celebration going at the Downtown Historic District’s surrounding bars and restaurants.

Blankets, lawn chairs, and picnics are welcome. Food, beer and wine are available for purchase at Niko Niko’s. No glass containers or outside alcoholic beverages are permitted.
