This month provides opportunities to catch two of the greatest love stories ever told at HGO, see world premieres from Catastrophic Theatre and ROCO, and experience an important piece of Houston history on stage at the Ensemble.

Beyond Broadway: Adrienne Warren at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts | Saturday, February 1 – The singer and actress, who won a Tony Award for her portrayal of Tina Turner in Tina: The Tina Turner Musical, comes to Houston for this intimate concert of songs from Broadway and beyond. $42.40 and up. 7:30pm.

Cirque du Soleil: Echo at Sam Houston Race Park | Thursday, February 6 to Sunday, March 23 – The world-renowned Cirque du Soleil debuts Echo, a brand-new production blending its signature acrobatics, captivating visuals, and enchanting characters. $60 and up, but you may find cheaper or better seats on the TicketNetwork resale market and save 20% off your tickets with promo code HOUSTON20. DaCamera: New York Philharmonic String Quartet at the Hobby Center | Friday, February 7 – The members of the New York Philharmonic String Quartet come to Houston to perform the music of Haydn, Florence Price and Dvořák. $46 and up. 7:30pm.

The Big Swim at Asia Society Texas Center | Friday, February 7 to Sunday, February 9 – Celebrate Lunar New Year with a heartwarming one-act opera sure to delight young and old. In this retelling of the Jade Emperor and the Great Race—a fable that sets the order of the 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac calendar—the animals learn to put aside fierce competition to instead care for and support one another, side by side. $40. Showtimes vary.

Catastrophic Theatre: Miss Laraj’s House of Dystopian Futures at MATCH | Friday, February 7 to Saturday, March 1 – This world premiere by Candace D’Meza is a post-apocalyptic riff on “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood,” with talking trees, judgmental rocks, all natural forces sing and move, attempting to guide humankind back to true symbiosis. Pay-What-You-Can. Times vary.

Seared at the Alley Theatre | Friday, February 7 to Sunday, March 2 – Comedic chaos ensues when a culinary consultant arrives to offer advice for a restaurant. The play is performed in the Alley’s Newhouse Theater, which is transformed into a restaurant for the show. $58 and up. Showtimes vary.

ROCO in Concert: Courageous at the Church of St. John the Divine | Saturday, February 8 – The full 40-piece orchestra performs this evening of daring music, including the Texas premiere of Clarice Assad‘s Evolution of AI and Ludwig van Beethoven‘s passionate Symphony No. 7. $35. 5pm.

Mildred’s Umbrella: The Wanderers at the ERJCC | Saturday, February 8 to Sunday, February 23 – Two married couples find they are growing apart as they strive to balance their individual identities with the families they’ve created. How can personal freedom and committed love co-exist? $18 and up. Showtimes vary.

Escher Quartet with Jordan Bak at Stude Concert Hall | Tuesday, February 11 – Be among the first to hear a new CMH co-commissioned piece by composer Chris Rogerson, featuring award-winning Jamaican-American violist Jordan Bak, and a program that includes Mendelssohn’s String Quartet in F minor, op.80 and Brahms’ Viola Quintet #2 in G major, op.111. $20 and up. 7:30pm.

Live at the Founders Club: Honky Tonk Hearts: The Best of Country Duets at the Hobby Center | Friday February 14 & Saturday, February 15 – This enchanting acoustic show features the incredible talents of Ben Hope and Katie Barton Hope, a married duo who will serenade you with heartfelt renditions of the greatest country music duets, sharing personal anecdotes and stories highlighting the songs’ significance in their lives and the broader country music landscape. $58 and up. 7:30pm.

Dance Source Houston: Mind the Gap XXXIII at MATCH | Tuesday, February 18 – Back for its 33rd installment, this show features a range of dance forms including Bharatanatyam, contemporary, and heels, all created by local choreographers. Pay-What-You-Can. 7:30pm.

Dirt Dogs Theatre Co: Blackbird at MATCH | Friday, February 21 to Saturday, March 8 – When Una shows up at Ray’s new office unannounced, guilt, rage, and raw emotions run high as they reexamine the relationship they had 15 years ago, as Una tries to reconcile the brutal truth of this abusive attachment. $30. Showtimes vary.

Houston Ballet: In the Night at the Wortham Center | Thursday, February 27 to Sunday, March 9 – This mixed rep program features 3 expressive ballets offering a fascinating fusion of classical and contemporary artistry. Stanton Welch’s Maninyas delves into the gradual and sometimes daunting process of revealing oneself in a relationship. Jerome Robbins’ In the Night is a poignant one-act ballet for 3 couples, set to 4 piano nocturnes by composer Frédéric Chopin. Lila York’s Celts fuses Irish folk dance and ballet. $25 and up.
