Autumn has arrived. Coffee shops have made it official with the return of the pumpkin spiced latte.
It may not feel like it yet, but the cooler weather is right around the corner and with it comes the fun and fervor of the Fall family festivals.
Houston Fall Family Festivals in September 2017
- Take Me Outdoors Houston at Discovery Green | Saturday, September 23 | FREE – Take Me Outdoors Houston offers a family-oriented festival of the outdoors featuring educational demonstrations of live hawks and animals, hands-on activities, booths and more at Discovery Green park. 10am to 3pm.
- Texas Hot Sauce Festival at Bayou City Event Center | Saturday, September 23 and Sunday, September 24 – This fiery annual event heats up with hot sauces, salsas, dips, spices, marinades, wing sauces, and jams from all over the country. Tickets are $10 and free for kids 12 and under. The festival benefits the Snowdrop Foundation, which raises money for pediatric cancer patients. Saturday 11am to 6pm; Sunday noon to 5pm.
- Food Truck Festival at Sam Houston Race Park | Saturday, September 23 – Discover some of Houston’s most popular food trucks all in one place, along with a craft beer tastings, and fun activities for the kids including face painting, balloon animals, and games. Tickets start at $10 for a pair of tickets (2 for $10). 1pm to 7:30pm.
- Houston Slavic Heritage Festival at KC Hall | Sunday, September 24 | FREE – Celebrate the Slavic heritage of Houston’s Czech, Croatian, Polish, and Ukranian communities with the traditional foods, activities for the kiddos, music, and dances. Tickets are $5; free for children 12 and under. Noon to 6pm.
- Galveston Island Shrimp Festival | Friday, September 29 and Saturday, September 30 – Get a taste of the island at this local shrimp festival, which features special highlights like Friday’s VIP kick-off party, Saturday’s Gumbo Stroll, the Lil’ Shrimp’s Parade, and an official 5k beginning at 9am on Saturday morning. Tickets start at $10. Friday 7:30pm to 10pm ; Saturday noon to 4pm.
- The Houston Black Heritage Music & Arts Festival at Discovery Green | Saturday, September 30 – Celebrate African and African-American culture with art, music, poetry, food, and community at this outdoor festival at Discovery Green park. Tickets start at $25; kids ages 9 and under get in free. 4pm to 10pm.
Houston Fall Family Festivals in October 2017
- The Original Greek Festival at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral | Thursday, October 5 to Sunday, October 8 – Learn about Greek culture at the 51st Annual Original Greek Festival at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Montrose. This family-friendly event will feature the finest in Greek cuisine, kids activities, music and more. Tickets start at $5; children ages 12 and under get in free. Thursday 5pm to 1pm; Friday and Saturday 11am to 11pm; Sunday noon to 6pm.
- 38th Annual Festival Chicano at Miller Outdoor Theatre | Thursday, October 5 to Saturday, October 7 | FREE – Head to the 38th Annual Festival Chicano, a cultural celebration of Chicano music from Tejano and Conjunto, to Mariachi and Orchestra at the Miller Outdoor Theatre. 7pm each night.
- Pearland Arts & Crafts on the Pavilion at Pearland Town Center | Saturday, October 7 and Sunday, October 8 | FREE – Experience a 2-day juried art show that will feature a variety of fine art and unique works for sale. Spend the day outdoors strolling through the aisle filled with art while enjoying a food trucks court, sipping wine at their wine bistro, taking the little ones to the kids’ interactive station, and watching a concert. 10am to 5pm each day.
- Fifth Ward Fall Festival | Saturday, October 7 | FREE – Bring the whole family for this Fall-themed festival with the Fifth Ward community and enjoy kids activities, vendors and more. Noon to 5pm.
- International Bacon Fest at HTX Sports Creek | Saturday, October 7 – Treat yourself to some tasty bacon as well as other pork dished from around the world at this all-ages fest. Expect plenty of tastings, as well as carnival rides, live music, a bacon-eating competition, games, crafts, a pig pen and more. Tickets start at $10. 1pm to 7pm.
- Community Night Out Weekend in Missouri City | Saturday, October 7 and Sunday, October 8| FREE – The “Show me city” hosts a 2-day festival filled with live music from acts like jazz artists Kim Waters and Kyle Turner, Step Rideau & the Zydeco Outlaws and more. Festivities will also include food trucks, a rock climbing wall, event booths that highlight local businesses, as well as face painting and bounce houses for the kiddos. Saturday 4pm to 10pm; Sunday 2:30pm to 8:30pm.
- 39th Annual Houston Italian Festival | Thursday, October 12 to Sunday, October 15 – This four-day weekend celebration will include live music, wine and beer tastings, film screenings, kids’ cooking classes, Italian language classes, Carranza puppet shows, interactive sidewalk art, pasta eating contests, grape stomps, and a bocce ball tournament. Admission is free all day on Thursday, October 12 and until 4pm on Friday, October 13. Tickets are $6 in advance; $8 at the gate; children ages 11 and under get in free. Thursday 5pm to 10pm; Friday and Saturday 11am to 10pm; Sunday 11am to 6pm.
- Conroe Cajun Catfish Festival | Friday, October 13 to Sunday, October 15 – Laissez les bon temps rouler at the family-friendly Conroe Cajun Catfish Fest. Nosh on catfish and Cajun food as you dance or relax to live music and peruse the crafts booths. Tickets are $15 for Thursday; $20 for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday; children 12 and younger get in free. Admittance to the carnival area is free on Thursday and Friday. Friday 6pm to midnight; Saturday 11am to midnight; Sunday noon to 6pm.
- Taste of Houston Festival at Town Green Park | Saturday, October 14 and Sunday, October 15 – Hit this foodie fest for two full days of tastes and fun, with over 200 booths of eateries, artists, crafters, boutiques, and food trucks. The weekend will also feature live music, a kid zone with rides and activities, artistic performances and more. Tickets are $5 at the gate, but if you can bring a can of food for the Montgomery County Food Bank it gets you $2 off the ticket price. 10am to 6pm both days.
- Bayou City Art Festival in Downtown | Saturday, October 14 and Sunday, October 15 – Now in its 46th year, the Bayou City Art Festival is once again bringing fine art from around the country for their family-friendly, two-day outdoor festival in Downtown which attracts more than 20,000 visitors each year. Tickets start at $12 for adults; $5 for kids ages 6 to 12; $20 for a 2-day pass. 10am to 6pm each day.
- Korean Festival Houston at Discovery Green | Saturday, October 21 | FREE – Drawing tens of thousands of visitors at prior events, this outdoor festival will feature cultural presentations and live performances, traditional cuisine from Korean food vendors, interactive games, art and more for all ages to enjoy. 10am to 7pm.
- Dia De Los Muertos Festival at MECA Houston | Saturday, October 28 | FREE – Recognizing the differences in Latin celebrations of Dia de Los Muertos, this event focuses on the common theme of honoring family and friends. Expect music, dance, theater, food, and visual arts from different Latin American countries at MECA’s nationally recognized historic Dow School in the Sixth Ward. 11am to 7pm each day.
Houston Fall Family Festivals in November 2017
- International Quilt Festival at George R. Brown Convention Center | Wednesday, November 1 to Sunday, November 5 – Cozy up at the International Quilt Festival at George R. Brown Convention Center and sign up for classes or just stop in and browse the quilts on display. Tickets are $12; $9 for seniors; $12 for preview night on Thursday, November 1. Wednesday 7pm to 10pm; Thursday to Saturday 10am to 7pm; Sunday 10am to 4pm.
- The 44th Annual British Festival in Sugar Land | Saturday, November 4 | FREE – The 44th Annual British Festival is a holiday-themed family-friendly fest that will feature handmade gifts, food, performances, face painting and more. 10am to 4pm.
- Hands On Houston Family Festival at Houston Center for Contemporary Craft | Saturday, November 4 | FREE – Get crafty as the 7th Annual Hands On Houston Family Festival features indoor and outdoor activities all about fiber with artist demonstrations and more at HCCC in the Museum District. 11am to 3pm.
- 4th Annual Dia de los Muertos Block Party in Magnolia Park | Saturday, November 4 | FREE – Celebrate this Mexican holiday with this Dia De Los Muertos Block Party, a free East End community event held at Magnolia Park. 2pm to 7pm.
- 28th Annual Native American Championship Pow Wow at Traders Village | Saturday, November 11 and Sunday, November 12 – Enjoy this two-day Native American Pow Wow with colorful tribal dance contests, an arts & crafts show, tipis, honoring ceremonies, singing and much more at Traders Village. Free to attend. Parking is $4. 10am each day.
- Islamic Arts Festival 2017 at Champions Islamic Center | Saturday, November 11 and Sunday, November 12 | FREE – Bring the whole family to experience Islamic calligraphy, woodwork, ceramic tiles and paintings from local artists in Spring. 10:30am to 5:30pm each day.
- Seaside Treasure Festival at Moody Methodist Church | Friday, November 17 and Saturday, November 18 | FREE – Get started on your holiday shopping at the 18th annual Seaside Treasure Festival that features over 100 arts and crafts vendors, a lunch from the Seaside Cafe, a silent auction and more in Galveston. Friday 11am to 6pm; Saturday 9am to 4pm.
- Houston Via Colori in Downtown | Saturday, November 18 and Sunday, November 19 – Watch over 200 artists make art on the streets to celebrate the artistic spirit of Houston at the Via Colori festival in Downtown. Enjoy diverse art, live music, activities, food, and drinks. Tickets are $7 in advance or $10 at the door. Saturday 10am to 6pm; Sunday 10am to 5pm.
- Thanksgiving Parade in Downtown | Thursday, November 23 | FREE – Get into the holiday spirit at the 68th Annual Thanksgiving Day parade, a stunning showcase of sensational floats, high-flying balloons, marching bands, artistic entries, and live entertainment in the streets of Downtown. 9am.
