The Astros in October is quite a familiar sight in Houston, and this year is no different as they’ll embark on the opening series of the playoffs.
Plus, just a few blocks away, the Dash open their first ever playoff run in mid-October. But this month is also about new beginnings as the Rockets get their 82-game season underway.

- College Football: Houston Cougars vs. Tulane University at TDECU Stadium | Saturday, October 8 – The Green Wave hits the Bayou City, and the Coogs will look to defend home turf. $8.50 and up. 6pm.
- Houston Dynamo FC vs. LA Galaxy at PNC Stadium | Sunday, October 9 – On the Dynamo’s final game of the season, fans can snag a Hector Herrera bobblehead, or chip in on a ticket package that includes a Latino Heritage scarf. $20 and up. 4pm.
- 2022 ALDS: Houston Astros vs. Seattle Mariners at Minute Maid Park | Tuesday, October 11 & Thursday, October 13 – The ‘Stros kick off another playoff run, hosting Seattle for Games 1, 2 and 5, if necessary. Tickets start at $35, but you may find better, cheaper or hard-to-get seats using the TicketNetwork online marketplace. Times TBD.
- ChildAdvocates Superhero Run at CityCentre | Saturday, October 15 – This annual run through CityCentre encourages participants to don their favorite superhero contest and set out on a 5K, all while fundraising for Child Advocates, an organization that helps provide support, medical and mental help to children in the foster system. Registration is $35 for the 5K; $20 for the Kids K. 8am to 10am.
- Houston Dash vs. Kansas City Current at PNC Stadium | Sunday, October 16 – For the first time ever, the Houston Dash are gracing the playoffs and fans can pack PNC when they take advantage of $7 tickets, dollar hot dogs, and $3 beers for a special 7-1-3 Night in EaDo. $7 and up. 4pm.
- 6th Annual Hess Houston Corporate 5K at Memorial Park | Tuesday, October 18 to Thursday, October 20 – The annual, three-night corporate teambuilding event boasts hundreds of companies that are represented by their employees that take to Memorial Park for a 5K that typically sells out each year. Stick around for a post-race party that includes free food and Saint Arnold brews along with a live band, raffle prizes and more. Registration is $40 and up. 4pm to 7:30pm.
- Houston Rockets vs. Memphis Grizzlies at Toyota Center | Friday, October 21 – A youthful Rockets squad that features first-round pick Jabari Smith, Jr. will open the 2022-23 NBA season by facing Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies on homecourt. $25 and up. 7pm.
- Monster Jam at NRG Stadium | Saturday, October 22 – Watch as 12,000-pound monster trucks soar, flip and crash around NRG Stadium when the touring spectacle arrives again in Houston. $20 and up. 7pm.
- Fall Classic at Houston Polo Club | Sunday, October 23 – The annual Fall Classic sees pros pony up on the pitch for a world-class polo match that also features a player parade, live music, a Champagne divot stomp and halftime, and a best straw cowboy hat contest. $35; $15.50 for ages 12 and under. Boxes for 2 to 20 guests range from $89 to $895. 4pm.
- Houston Rockets vs. Utah Jazz at Toyota Center | Monday, October 24 – The Rockets face the Jazz in their second home game of the season on Filipino Heritage Night, which honors Houston’s own Jalen Green, as well as Jordan Clarkson of the Utah Jazz—the only active Filipino players in the NBA. $15 and up. 7pm.
- Houston Texans vs. Tennessee Titans at NRG Stadium | Sunday, October 30 – On Halloween Eve, the Texans will look to right the ship this season against their oldest rivals, the Titans. $69 and up. 3pm.
