- Sugar Land Junior Superstar 2023 Auditions at Sugar Land Town Square | Wednesday, May 17 | FREE – Sugar Land’s Junior American Idol-like competition kicks off another summer by showcasing local talent with open auditions. Contestants must be between the ages of 9 and 13, and full-time residents of Fort Bend County to be eligible. Registrations required for auditions. 4pm to 7pm.
- Children’s Bingo at Levy Park | Thursday, May 18 | FREE – Yell “Bingo!” at a kid’s version of the beloved game. This 30-minute program, ideal for ages 4 to 12, is a fun way for children to practice their letters and numbers while earning prizes. Levy Park provides the Bingo cards, markers, and prizes. 4:30pm.
- 50th Annual Pasadena Strawberry Festival at Pasadena Fairgrounds | Thursday, May 18 to Sunday, May 21 – The annual strawberry fest celebrates its 50th anniversary in Pasadena, featuring a weekend of barbecue, carnival rides, a car show, mutton bustin’, a kids zone, and more. Single day tickets are $15; $5 for ages 6 to 10; free for ages 5 and under. Weekend passes are $30. Times vary.
- Storytime in the Garden at Houston Botanic Garden | Friday, May 19 | FREE – Park Place Regional Library presents a 30-minute storytime for children and their caregivers at the South Houston gardens. Free with registration. 10:30am to 11am.
- Wood Fired Pizza Night at the Village Farm at Harvest Green | Friday, May 19 – Enjoy wood-fired pizza featuring farm-fresh veggies along with yard games and a kids’ activity table at the Richmond farm space. $20 per family. 6pm to 8pm.
- Houston Grand Opera presents La Traviata at Miller Outdoor Theatre | Friday, May 19 & Saturday, May 20 | FREE – Perfect for first-time operagoers and family audiences, Verdi’s La Traviata is one of the world’s most-performed operas and features beloved arias like “Brindisi (The Drinking Song)” and “Sempre Libera.” 8pm.
- Light Up the Night at Kemah Boardwalk | Saturday, May 20 | FREE – Celebrate the class of 2023 with buy-one, get-one all-day ride passes, prizes, a dance floor, and photo ops at Kemah Boardwalk. Passes are available for purchase. 1pm to 10pm.
- The International Festival at Discovery Green | Saturday, May 20 | FREE – Held around the world, this festival gathers artists and cultural representatives for a day of exchange between cultures, communities and diverse peoples that promotes peace, love and friendship. Expect live music and performances, gourmet foods, and unique art on display. 2pm to 9pm.
- Houston Dash vs. San Diego Wave at Shell Energy Stadium | Saturday, May 20 – Soccer superstar Alex Morgan and the San Diego Wave roll into town to face the Dash. $10 and up. 7:30pm.
- Dinos Alive at Marq’e Entertainment Center | Ongoing – Step back in time and get a sense of the sheer scale of the largest beasts to walk the earth at the Dinos Alive Immersive Experience, now in Spring Branch through late June. More than 80 animatronic dinosaurs can be viewed in their natural habitat, along with an added boost thanks to the latest in virtual reality technology. While the exhibit is popular with dinosaur fans of all ages, kids can also take advantage of a special “Budding Experts” interactive space, where they can get hands on paleontology experience and even tame some of the most iconic dinosaurs of all time. $20 and up; price varies by date and time.
