The Freedom Walk Challenge in Galveston

Anyone can download the app for free and use to it explore five historic locations in Downtown Galveston, tracing the history of Juneteenth and emancipation on Galveston Island. And after you’ve checked in at all five locations, stop by the Visitor Information Center on Mechanic Street to pick up a special souvenir prize.
While Juneteenth 2021 may be over, the Freedom Walk Challenge in Galveston is available for free daily throughout Summer 2021 and beyond.

The Freedom Walk is available to all and takes visitors on a tour of significant spots that retrace the steps of the Union Soldiers when they arrived in Galveston on June 19, 1865, forever marking an incredible day in United States history.
- Stop 1: Pier 1 & the Middle Passage
- Stop 2: Juneteenth Marker and Site of Union Headquarters
- Stop 3: U.S. Customs House
- Stop 4: Reedy Chapel-AME Church
- Stop 5: 1859 Ashton Villa
