Summer Camp: Pilot Maker at Lone Star Flight Museum

Tuesday, August 11, 2020 | 10:30 am to 3:30 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every day that begins at 10:30 am, repeating until Friday, August 14, 2020

Lone Star Flight Museum presents a four-day, in-person summer camp, Pilot Maker, designed for ages 10 to 12 years old.

Summer Camp: Pilot Maker

The T-6 Texan was called the “Pilot Maker” because it was the last training plane young pilots flew before taking on the WWII Warbird fighters and bombers. Campers will follow flight school basic training as they learn the science that a pilot needs to know, how physics is used to control the aircraft, and the mechanics inside the planes.

They’ll also practice flying skills on the flight trainers and warbird simulators, just like the pilots of World War II, then move on to modern fighter jets. Finally, they’ll test their ace skills in simulated dogfights against their camp mates.

There will also be fieldtrip to Ellington Field to meet the pilots of the Air National Guard 147th Fighter wing or the Coast Guard and see their aircraft up close.

Campers must bring a sack lunch, as well as a separate snack, each day of the camp.

A separate session of the his camp is scheduled earlier in the summer from Tuesday, August 21 through Friday, August 24, 2020.

Additional camps are available this summer for ages 8 and 9 and ages 13 and 14. Click here for more information.

Additional daily childcare is available before and after the actual camp session for an additional fee. Click here for more information.

The four-day camp is $175 per camper for non-members; $150 for museum members and active military (verified by military I.D. on the first day of camp).
