Stages presents a side-splitting new musical parody Spamilton: An American Parody—headlining a double-feature evening, complete with hip-hop piano—at The Gordy theater near Montrose, River Oaks and Washington Avenue.

Given the patriotic nature of Hamilton, and all the musical parody throwbacks, the show makes for a great, multi-generational 4th of July weekend activity.

Spamilton: An American Parody

Created by Gerard Alessandrini, the comic mastermind behind the long-running hit Forbidden Broadway, Spamilton features a versatile cast of six.

A crash course on Broadway history, the production takes the well-beloved score updated with witty new lyrics to tell the story of Lin Manuel Miranda’s meteoric rise ten years after achieving acclaimed success with his smash hit, Hamilton. 

21 Chump Street

Audiences will also get two-for-one entertainment with an encore pairing of Miranda’s rarely performed “mini musical”, 21 Chump Street. 

The hidden gem, written in signature Miranda style, provides comedic commentary on the pressures teenagers face to be cool at school while navigating the “war on drugs”.
