River Oaks Chamber Orchestra (ROCO) presents its weekly ROCO In Concert broadcast, featuring its Season 13 program, Courageous Catalysts, with guest artists joining on for Facebook Live for a chat and Q&A.
Conducted by Michael Stern, the program presented the world premiere of a ROCO commission by Michael Gandolfi titled Houston: September 12, 1962, celebrating the 100th birthday of President John F. Kennedy and the courage of people who fight for change.
Also included are Jean Sibelius’ sublime Symphony No. 7, the composer’s final published symphony, and Bruce Adolphe’s I Will Not Remain Silent, a violin concerto inspired by the life of German-American rabbi and civil rights leader, Joachim Prinz. The concerto spotlights ROCO concertmaster Scott St. John, representing the voice of Prinz, while the orchestra represents opposing forces–Nazi Germany in the first movement and America during the Civil Rights era.
