Houston Botanic Garden Opening Season: Celebrating Africa

An event every week that begins at 9:00 am on Sunday, Friday and Saturday, repeating until Sunday, October 18, 2020
The new Houston Botanic Garden, officially open to the public on Friday, September 18, 2020, welcomes visitors to an oasis of learning, discovery, and horticultural beauty on , kicking off a series of opening season weekends with special programming that will showcase Houston’s cultural richness and biodiversity.
Take a stroll among beautiful plants and trees as you engage your senses while discovering the unexpected in Houston’s new living museum for plants.
The opening season will feature a series of celebrations highlighting different regions of the world, from Latin America and Asia to Africa and the Mediterranean.
HBG will present special outdoor educational demonstrations on Caribbean plants and food, by Chef Keisha Griggs of Ate Kitchen in the Politan Row food hall. Plus, Chef Tarsha Gary of Crave Gourmet Bakery will showcase gumbo and the connections between African-Americans and West Africa.
Dance of Asian America will present dance performances, there will be children’s activities, and more.

Social Distancing & COVID-19 Precautions
All guests age 10 and older will be required to wear a mask at all times while visiting the garden and six-feet of social distancing are required from other visitors to the garden. Click here fore more details on HBG’s safety protocols.
Many businesses around Greater Houston and the State of Texas are open and individual social distancing practices vary from location to location. Masks are mandated by the Governor of Texas and City of Houston in all cases when indoors or where social distancing is not possible.
