Apollo Chamber Players present Roots at MATCH
Saturday, May 11, 2019 | 8:00 pm$10
Apollo Chamber Players concludes its eleventh season with Roots, a program that features the works of composers inspired by the folk music from their homeland, although they no longer live in the country of their birth.
The show includes the world premiere of “20×2020 No.17” by composer Pierre Jalbert, a string quartet paying homage to the music of his French-Canadian heritage.
It will also feature Serbian-born composer Ana Sokolović—who has embraced Canada as her home, yet whose music pulses to the beat of her Serbian roots—and Czech composer Antonin Dvořák. Forever transformed by his time in America, Dvořák’s 14th epic string quartet was composed after returning to his beloved Bohemia.
There will be a Q&A session with the artists before the show at 7:30pm. Performance is at 8pm.
