33rd Annual AIA Sandcastle Competition on Galveston Island’s East Beach
Saturday, August 24, 2019 | 10:00 am to 4:30 pm
An event every day that begins at 10:00 am, repeating until Sunday, August 25, 2019
More than 60 teams will compete for the prestigious Golden Bucket Award at the 32nd edition of the AIA Sandcastle Competition. Following months of planning, teams stretch out along the beach front and meticulously sculpt their piles of sand and work non-stop for five hours.
The judging of the sculptures is rated on originality of concept, artistic execution, technical difficulty, carving technique, and utilization of the site.
In addition to the Golden Bucket, awards are given in several categories including Best Traditional Castle, Best Architectural Icon, Kidtastic! – LEGO Edition, Best Science Fiction, Best Sports, and Houston-centric, plus best team t-shirt design, best team signage, best costume, and public favorite.
Or visit on Sunday, to view all the completed works and sculptures.
