Stop in at the BRC Gastropub on Shepherd in the Heights for some delicious Southern-inspired pub food and a rotating menu of craft beers and fine wines.
Update: BRC Gastropub is permanently closed.
To create this popular neighborhood bar and restaurant, Executive Chef Lance Fegen and his team at BRC Gastropub have taken a culinary trend that grew out of London in the 90s and modified it to fit the Houston palate. In addition to becoming notorious for its delicious and indulgent menu featuring gourmet biscuits and gravy, bacon jam, mac and cheese, sliders, hot dogs and more, the restaurant has caused more than a few tongues to wag.
In the spirit of London pubbery (and we suspect some of Chef Lance’s cheekery), BRC Gastropub takes its name giant red rooster perched proudly out front at the corner of Shepherd and Blossom Street, securing its title as the Big Red Cock of the walk.
Craft Beer & Fine Wines
From the beginning, the concept for BRC Gastropub was built around regional and nationally recognized beers that are on the cutting edge. The bar features 28 different craft beers on tap, with at least another 25 bottles of craft beer available at all times. Some of the craft brews featured can be found nowhere else in Houston. BRC will even cellar limited quantities or specialty beers for future release, meaning that the bar is among the very last in the world to serve some unique and special brews.
Likewise, fine and speciality wines are paired with the menu, offering a culinary experience not typically associated with pub food. Similar to the beer menu, the wine list features some local and international favorites alongside some curated specialties that you’re not likely to stumble across elsewhere.
